my mothers computer died last week. HD failure or some shit. She had to buy a whole new computer. And the warranty ended a month ago. Today my sisters' computer dies the same exact, warranty ended a month ago. My computer as well will turn on, but the screen refuses to do anything. I have a macbook pro and i did everything. I heard rumors of the macbook pro "black screen of death" because of the NVIDIA card or some shit. I heard apple will cover it too, but will i lose my shit? I mean i had my college essays all on there so im fuckin pissed. apple sucks a big one. god help me, jesus help me, nomsteven help me out.

Did you back up your files and settings? Because everyone should be doing that on their PC, regardless of whether it runs Windows or OS X.

i really hope apple can save your dog.

but seriously they make all there shit die right after a new product comes out so you buy more, sometimes

If you have the pro I have (the last edition of the computer) then it's probably the video card, I had that problem too. shipped my computer to apple and it got fixed and back to me in 2 days.Sent my HD with the computer didn't back anything up and everything was fine when I got it back. Then I bought an External HD and backed my shit up ASAP, just in case.

they will fix your problem under warranty and they do not have to do anything to the hd, just fix the video card problem. did your mom or sister try contact apple about it? im surprised that they wouldnt replace the harddrives, my friend had an expired warranty on his mb, was carrying it around at a party of his, drunk, got slapped on the arm prety hard, dropped it, broke the hd and he took it in and apple replaced it for free.

even if apple wont replace their harddrives you can just take them in and get them replaced for pretty cheap, maybe a bit more than the cost of a new harddrive. that really sucks though

well my warranty expired as well. Only maybe a month or two ago. I'm just sick of this shit. Three computers blowing out right after warranty expired? some real horseshit.

Its not really a theory. Its well known that most manufacturers intentionally shorten the life-span of their products.

sorry to hear about that man, I feel like the newer products coming out of apple are just getting shittier by the year. Right now I am using a G5 that I have had for almost 5 years which serves as the main computer in my recording studio, doing a whole lot of demanding tasks. I have bought laptops from them since however, and with those, the HDs would shit the bed, I would have sofware corruptions, a whole gang of problems. Not really sure where I stand with the company at the moment, but every time something ridiculous would happen, I would march right into my local apple store and DEMAND that my problem be remedied, and would not leave until it was. hope everything works out though man, give them hell.

thats shitty, id take it in just in case, i believe there may have been a recall on the mbp's with the faulty videocards, so regardless of when your warranty expired they should have to fix it. might want to double check online before you go in and demand they fix it because you hear there was a recall. and if you cant get it replaced for free its going to be alot cheaper to replace the video card than it will be to get a whole new mbp. I had a major problem with my 15inch unibody mbp, the harddrive failed completely after some minor problems that two trips to the vancouver apple store and two to my campus apple reseller didnt fix. i ended up getting all my data recovered off the failed drive for free and a new hd (harddrive recovery is usually upwards of $500 so i was stoked to say the least). just go in with a good a good attitude and be patient and they will usually hook you up even if your warranty has expired

i find it hard to believe that apple forced you to buy new computers. im sure that if the warranty was expired, yes, they wouldnt fix it for free. believe it or not, warranties do exist for a reason, if everyone fixed everything for free forever, well that wouldnt make a good business model now would it?

as for yours, if its under warranty, they should fix it for free, and you should be able to keep your shit, however if you do lose it, thats pretty much your own damn fault for not backing your shit up.

that, or get an external hd big enough to put all your stuff on and find someone else with a macbook with either a firewire 400 or 800 port on theirs (as well as yours obviously) get a firewire to firewire port, turn the other persons computer on, and when you turn your computer on press and hold T right from start up, this allows the other computer to access everything on your computer. from there move everything you want from your computer onto the external hd.

that is of course if you cant get the video card problem fixed, which is what it sounds like youre dealing with.

Really? I'm absolutely positive that they bulld thier shit to make it die after the warranty is over
