Apple announces FCP X

This looks awesome! Final cut really did need an upgrade...

"it appears the old render dialog is gone entirely as the app uses the available CPU to keep files always rendered" - macstores.net

That looks stupid. First of all, taking away the conventional layout pretty much dismisses any reason for me to even use FCP when I can get every Adobe CS5 product for $300. Not only is it a burdon to change a layout that many people are fast with, they are replacing it with one of the most horrendous layouts I've ever used. Second, why are they incorporating these half-baked versions of VFX tools? We all know they're going to suck, just like almost all of the effects that currently come with FCP. Why not just save it for After Effects or Nuke?

I'll hold my judgement until I actually use it, but it seems like Apple is trying to homogenize it's editing software, which is entirely a bad thing.

Honestly it looks like i will be making the switch from final cut to premiere pro until i can actually try final cut "x" out

reminds me of premiere kinda. stoked on the new rendering system. somebody let me know when it's on piratebay

Because they're lagging so far behind adobe's products right now (minus the stability... i really wish they would figure out how to make a program that I can't crash on a consistent basis) so they're looking to drop down and get that middle ground market that may be intimidated by the current fcp and premiere layouts. That's my take on it.

it's still that same intimidating looking program, just with less features and at a more attainable price point. And I know the layout is very customizable with FCP; just trying to think about how a basic, simple consumer might view the software. They're pretty clearly trying to take away some of that edge and make it less intimidating to those consumers.
That being said, I really like some of the features. However I still feel as though they're kind of playing catch up. It's awesome that they added the new render system though, that sounds killer. I'm definitely stoked to check it out sometime and see what it's all about.

if the rendering capabilities work as promised it could be pretty sick. but i hate Imovie!! hoping its different enough that i dont wanna huck my computer out the window.

This sounds like a waste of time to me. FCP is already an incredibly basic (albiet functional) program; why change it? Simplifying things works for the mass market, but when you force professionals (who already have a solid regimen when it comes to work flow) to completely change their habits for the sake of consumerism, you end up wasting the editor/client's time and money.

Final Cut Express is a very hard program for me to use because it's oversimplified past the point of functionality. iMovie is even worse. Now they're trying to do this to FCP? waaaahh

I think its sort of stupid. if they were trying to get the middle ground why include 4K resolution suport? I think its expanding their market to also get the middle market but at the same time its pissing people off like me ( until I actualy see it) I want the good ol final cut interface, I FUCKING HATE I MOVIE! for them to even mention the name Imovie in a pitch is such a bad Idea, its scaring the shit out of serious editors like me who despise that stupid program and want to do something pro. maybee have the Imovie feel in the express version? wouldnt that be a smarter move?

I dig that it suports 65bit editing and 4K resolution but what does this realy mean? it means I would have to upgrade my Imac even more to fully take advantage of this.... fuck that.

for now I hope there is a pirated version available soon so that I can test out the continuous rendering.

i was pissed about the whole imovie layout thing but i watched the video and its not as bad as i thought. not as good as FCP 7 still though. FCP did need an update though, i guess we just have to wait and see if this ends up being good or not

How about waiting until you can actually use the program to judge it? Speculate all you want, but it's pointless.
