Anyone play guitar?

Sometimes it feels weird posting because a lot of people are low key killers that just play and have been sick forever. I just like how it makes me feel and am happy with any bits of progress regardless of where it goes. Goal was to learn 4 chords good enough to butcher a song and be able to play "music". Sounds kind of stupid but legit that's all I hoped for. So all these littler things and the feeling I get makes me happy. Especially in the moments where I play out of my comfort zone and find something new to me.

Music is fucking powerful.

Always pretty shy but I have shitty memory so sometimes I record stuff on my phone in hopes I can find it and draw from it in the future. This was a jam I was playing just before and a key I haven't really jammed in. Liked the vibe and decided to throw the phone on. Felt good and decided to post it to the book because the guitar makes me so fucking happy. Best investment I ever made. Legit buying it made me broke where I was worried about getting food but I had nothing going on and hoped I'd play it. Has meant so much to me on this journey.

Kinda sloppy but I'm new and guitars make me feel things. I'd love to keep getting better but I'm just happy as hell to have this thing in my life. Hoping to keep progressing and maybe one day get decent at it. If not, fuck it, I'll keep playing whatever feels good and some shitty songs forever.

You are killing it! Sounds great!

I have owned my first guitar one week today.....I know 3 chords and can transition between them slowly to moderately well depending on the transition.

push yourself to learn difficult songs you think sound cool it’ll help you in the long run. straight up start learning some pentatonic licks so you can play things that sound impressive but aren’t.

Hell yeah. Thats all you need. The more you go between them the easier it will get.

Selfie mode on the cam.

Also i was pretty damn drunk when i posted things last night lol.

Honestly I think your strumming technique is way ahead of how long you’ve been playing. Like it’s one of those things that’s technically “wrong” until you get good enough that it’s “your style”. Honestly it’s kind of interesting to hear you play I am supposed that you can do what you can do after only a short time

Yeah i took piano lessons and it made me hate it. Was scared about the guitar. Figured I'd probably learn some things wrong but its working okay

I feel like unless you are really clicking with your teacher it’s just going to be awkward and forced. I signed up for lessons with my local music shop once and after a few sessions it was like this is a total buzzkill. All an instructor can do is point you to the trailhead and show you how to climb the mountain it’s up to the person how much they want to get into it

Trying to figure the electric out. Didn't play it in the spring really and had it in storage all summer. Hoping to learn some stuff this winter. I need to dial in the loop pedal. Also don't know what half the knobs do yet.

i think lessons are really discouraging and make instruments feel more like a chore than something fun

Yeah. I think there are good teachers though too. The cookie cutter stuff seems grinding and impersonal though. That's how my piano lessons felt. I was very interested in piano but i learn differently and maybe had different interests. Idk those lessons made me fucking hate piano, stop playing and hate going to them.

Maybe I'm weird but at least for me it was bad. I had issues with certain teachers in school forever too so I'm sure a good amount was in me.

I feel like teachers need to recognize where people are at though. Sometimes a person is really into an instrument or subject but not feeling engaged. Cookie cutter approach doesn't work for everyone.

I just signed up for a websites lessons. Haven't done any of them because my wrist was fucked for a few weeks, but ill see how that goes. It's an impersonal video style site but its not too pricey so im checking it out.

Would like to find a guitar teacher to help me learn some shit but more to give me direction. Point me at scales, chords, songs, warm up routines etc.

Plan to play a ton this winter. Hopefully wrist stays healthy. Its still kinda dicey but i can play at least.

True yeah. More that i really haven't put any time into figuring it out yet.

Realy only play the acoustic even though i bought an electric.

But yeah, planning to put some time into figuring it out this winter. Pretty foreign but i like that i can jam with headphones and noone can hear me.

Just some cheap stagg from my local music shop. I needed something that I can take traveling that won’t hurt my wallet too much if I break it. Next is gonna be a fancier Taylor or guild or something along those lines.

(also sorry I was overdoing it with the palm muting, I still don’t live alone and it’s like 11:30 lmao)

Nice stache!

And word I feel that. I live in mountain town usa so I'll never live alone unless I start selling my body and a kidney. Stoked I snagged the farthest room from people for the season so I should be able to play a lot more freely this year.

Also been starting to dive into my electric with headphones. These hobbies would have been way easier as a kid lol.

I'd love to get a nicer acoustic. Not sure though. Will upgrade if I decide to get an acoustic electric but otherwise might not. My living situation is pretty random. I had the electric and my banjo in storage for the summer and acoustic lived in my car. Not sure if I wanna drop bills on something that's getting baked in the sun in the car. But I also don't have a place to live parts of the year. It's tricky.

Acoustics are sick af though!

I'm tired and a little drunk so ima go to bed.

Not really practicing at all because wrist is barely working but Still played probably 3 hours today and maybe 5 hours yesterday. Friggin love the guitar. Always so much more to learn.

I get waves of "Omg I'm learning things"and "holy fuck I'm garbage" but even the latter just motivates me to keep playing. My jams are pretty rudimentary but I'm starting to be able to express myself a bit in that. Also in the way I pick a bit. But I'm hoping to get decent enough eventually where I can really express what I feel through the guitar. That's my goal. It's been a great outlet but I want it to really be an outlet for me.

Regardless I'm just gonna keep playing and see where it goes. Worst case I don't get very good at it and even then, it's still one of the best things I've ever bought myself.

Was playing after work yesterday and hitting some chords decided to throw some lyrics to it with no pressure. Just kinda to open up and not overthink things. Try not to change anything once it was out. No real structure but I like the vibe. Gonna try not to overthink things more often. It's not going to be perfect because i don't know what I'm doing. I like tweaking things a bit, but its so easy to get self conscious and in your head.

Just trying to get creative vibes flowing more oftem.

New one today. Rubber Side Down. A little Emo ish but it's really more positive than depressing. A lil sloppy and my phone is pretty cooked but whatever. I dig it so I put it up.

Feels good to make music. Even if nobody ever listens to it I feel like it's a great outlet for me. I obviously love writing from giant rant walls of text in the forums to the occasional article on here. Makes sense to get more into it with the guitar. I'm sure plenty of my songs will be trash but if I enjoy writing them and playing them I'm going to keep doing it. If nobody likes it, fuck it, doesn't matter. It's a personal outlet for me and it's positive.

I’ve been learning bits of rain song by Led Zeppelin the last few days. This clip isn’t that clean but whatever close enough. The open tuning is fun to mess around with.

practice mostly, if you have more gain that also helps too. I’ve found that it’s easiest when the guitar is down tuned.

Yeah makes sense, I'm trying them in drop C# which makes em a bit easier

thanks for the tip

Ok I really fucking hate to be that guy but I’m gonna get a nice guitar here soon but I can’t decide what. For reference I’m in a jam band (we cover Grateful Dead songs) and I usually like to just noodle aimlessly for hours on end.

I’ve got 3 top picks, one being the new prs silver sky SE, the second being a classic early 00’s American strat, and third being a Jerry Garcia replica guitar.

TL/DR I‘m sorry to be this guy but what guitar should I get

that's not a bad problem to have that's for sure! all are super solid picks. Personally I probably wouldn't go with Garcia replica style guitar. Being that I have an american made strat I'm a bit partial to that, but if you pick up a silver sky and like the way it feels then I'd say go that route! Definitely get some playing time on whatever ones you can and let that help drive the decision.
