Anyone know anything about fixing TV's?

I have a 50" Panasonic flat screen TV (TX-P50GT30B 50 Series 3D Plasma) which recently stopped working. I had an engineer come out who said they can't fix it because the panel is cracked - they're saying this must have been caused by me and isn't covered by the warranty. I'm pissed because the TV cost over $2k less than 18 months ago and as far as I'm aware, I've done nothing which would crack it (i.e. drop/hit it).

They said the cost of a new panel is the same price as a new TV - WTF!? So there's nothing that can be done except me buy a new one!

Does anyone know anything about TV's and whether there is any way to fix this for less than $2k or not?? Or do you know if I could get any money for this huge ass TV in its current state?

Just buy a 2ndhand 9th generation Pioneer Kuro and be amazed at how much better picture quality and black levels that has then anything that came out in the last 5 years.

Also with a bit of luck it's cheaper then 2K.
