Anyone here ever been a RA?

I'm really considering it next year. room and board is fully covered, and Considering i'm at a community college, thats two thirds of the price of college right there. around 3k a year. From what i understand, all you do is rounds on your assigned night, organize hall activities 'n such, and a few office hours. if i do it, i won't need a job next year. (parents want me to pay for my 4th year of college since they're gonna run out of my college savings after year three, but with all the money it'll save them, i'll be good to go.)

so, anyone have some insight on it? Good idea? bad?
 
bust kids and steal their booze. but really don't expect to be the "cool RA" cause everyone will still hate you.
That said, they are all freshman fucks, so who gives a shit?
 
Do it. You'll be so much happier not having to work. Granted, I have no experience with RA's or have been one myself, so I don't have insight with that.

 
who cares? So a bunch of waste kids don't like you, it's no big.

And they'll probably realise you're just ding your job.
 
do it up man. my RA's had it made. they just partied all the time with us. sometimes shit hit the fan for them and they had to take care of it since our rez was kind of a shitshow. but hey, since they were older all the freshly 18 year old girls were in love with them.
 
It's good to put on a resume, as well. If you don't mind sacrificing weekends, definitely go for it. I think its great that you are willing to help your parents out, too. Too many people think its their right to go to college...
 
My RA is sick. He comes back trashed and we just fuck with him and he fucks with us. Sometimes he will just sit us in a room and yell at us and shit, but he's so trashed that its hilarious. He even fought one kid in our hall. They were both trashed that they couldn't land anything. So funny. But yeah. the other RA's are fucking douchebags.
 
Fuck R.A.'s I've had so many bad experiences with them. Just a bunch of fuckers on a power trip.

To the R.A.'s who aren't you rock. The one cool RA I knew got fired for tokin up with us.
 
My cousin did it for 2 years at NYU. Saved her basically 20 grand a year or some crazy shit, and she got an extra room for guests whenever she wanted (I used to fly out to NY all the time just to take advantage of it - so sick)

basically, yeah... sometimes you have to be a bit of a narc, and it's not fun... but most of the time, you just go about your business, and if you catch someone doing something, just tell them to keep it outside the dorms... let them slide at first, unless you really have to bust them, since people make mistakes...

you do that, and you'll still have a bunch of friends... (plus, mad people are going to suck up to you, and offer you alcohol/green card all the freakin time... my cousin ALWAYS had weed haha.)

Shit... I kinda really miss NYU... 70% girls, and half the guys were gay? Yeah... they loved me hahaha.
 
Now she seems like a legit RA. All the RA's at WWU are prude christian bitches who are more conservative than you can even imagine. They lie to bust kids they don't like.

she just didn't care if other people did stuff, and she didn't take the low road and bust people she didn't like for BS.

as long as it wasnt harming everything else, it was cool i suppose.
 
Sounds more like you're the anomaly who doesn't realize what the job of an RA actually is.
 
not a bad gig but it can get annoying as shit. Im an RA and it has its pros and cons. It sucks planning programs and events because nobody gives a shit about them and I dont either. Office hours you can work done, and on rounds i just walk and dont actively find kids to writeup because its college; unless they are like..smoking meth. Go for it and save that green

 
Im an RA right now its had its ups and down. But realistically I have no office hours, I never do rounds, I'm not on campus during rounds( I call campus safety to take care of it if I ever get a call, I still socialize. My residents go out of their way to tell my bosses how good of an RA I am. It is a very peaceful easy way of saving money. That being said alot of young people dont have their shit togeather so you may have to do alot of counseling for peoples dumb problems.
 
have the best RA ever. shes never here on weekends because shes on the track team, also, shes just doin it for the exact same reasons as you, we see her at parties and she comes over and does shots, when our floor started to smoke, she messaged us " TAKE YOUR HIPPIE LETTUCE OUTSIDE!!"

she doesnt want us to get in trouble mainly because she doesnt want to tbe the one who turns us in to the RDs. they are truly the ones power trippin

My R.A.'s a good bastard, but the other ones are FUCKS.
I got really drunk a couple of nights in O-week and now I'm one of the 2 people in the whole hall (of 400 people!!!) that's temporarily banned from drinking (got a 7 week ban). The bitchy fucking head R.A. apparently put me to bed and then went and narked about my drinking to the disciplinary guy.
Got a pretty mean rep as "that guy" out of it though, haha.
If you can handle stupid fucking rules and lame procedures then go for it. I CANNOT AT ALL, but some can.
