Ive jumped tandem before and I am going to start the process of getting my license. Basically what I am wondering is costs, time, what to look for as there are a few places around me that do it etc.

The price depends on where you go. Find the places close to you from dropzone.com and go to each dropzone's website. You'll have to go through the AFF course, usually after 1-2 tandems, and that is usually 5-6 jumps. Then you're on student status until you get to 25 jumps and pass certain requirements to get your A licence, which is the most basic skydive license. Cost really depends, so it's hard to say. It isn't cheap though, but damn it's worth it. And addicting.

Dropzone.com also a forums which can be a good source of info, just make sure you read a lot of the articles first so you get a general idea of things first. And remember it is a forum, so there are lots of differing opinions and it helps to take things with a grain of salt.

Places like Lodi, CA and Skydive Perris CA have special A license programs where you can pay and stay. I think with everything it's like 3 grand for lodging and jumping. You can easily check on their sites.

Here in Utah, it is really cheap. It cost me about 900 for AFF which is the solo course you have to take in order to get on student status. If you come out to Utah I can introduce you to a dropzone and the instructors. This is one of the best places to learn. If you can land here at altitude, you can land anywhere. Best of luck, skydiving is pretty fun.

Here in Umeå, Sweden, it was actually a lot cheaper than I thought. 4500 SEK (like $600) for the hole thing, including 10 jumps, theory, gear etc. I'm doing this fall, couldn't be more stoked!

threads, I would also like to get my skydiving licence..

Ultimately I want to take my parachute as carry on when ever I fly so if anything happens, I can just bail. Is that allowed?

^expect to get checked at every single airport very carefully if you are carrying a parachute. If it is even allowed.
