Anyone have good sample ideas for music?

Just copped a Maschine and bootlegged trilian and ableton, produced a few beats that still need to be compressed and EQ'ed, but I figure every person has one oldies/rocksteady/soul/jazz or whatever song that they think would loop well in a rap beat, so post them up!

(specifically what works well is a solo instrument loop that last 3-4 seconds, or a singular note within a song)

would you like me to chop it for you too? get off your ass and do it yourself, thats kind of how original music is made.

I'm sorry, that sounded harsh. But come on man.

You guys are kinda missing the point of the thread.

Obviously, I have my own collection of mostly soul (tons of vinyls from Otis, Ella, Etta, Donny, Muddy Waters etc.) And have been and will continue to produce "my own sound," but I would just like to see what NS has to offer, seeing as I know I barely scrape the surface of oldies soul/jazz whatnot (need to pick up a ton more Stax stuff). I figured people could dig deep into their collections to show some music that I would've otherwise never heard and take my own spin off of it. THAT is how you create your own sound (I almost guarantee that those who were quick to say find your own shit have never produced anything in their life or know the first thing about producing for that matter)

Regardless, fuck all of you NS. Instead of answering my question by posting some songs that you like, people would rather waste their time telling me that I should get my own shit. It's honestly laughable how much NS has gone in the shitter.

this. making music take not only time to put the track together, but more important hours and hours going though old records and tapes finding good samples. how u think wu found their samples? they dug and put in the time, just like any real musician

Why does everything have to be about being right or wrong instead of replying constructively. Oh, right, I forgot that every kid on NS is an expert on everything. "Real musicians" (whatever that even means) don't trade collections?

RZA, your example, used to trade music with Civiliringz, J-Love, Mathmatics, 4th Disciple (all Wu-affiliate producers) and the Wu members and affiliates would come to RZA with samples they liked just to expose RZA to other music (read the Wu-Tang manual)

Are you just ignorant or genuinely stupid?

Also when part of the Gravediggaz he would often trade a co-produce with the one and only Prince Paul. I'm still in agreement with you.

not trying to pick a fight, just stating my opinion. i produce a little myself but my point of view is a talented producer is one who finds the material he samples on the way of discovering his musical interests, and actually thoroughly enjoying the piece he's sampling instead of asking people what a cool sample would be.

here, let me make this as constructive as possible.

Anything that is remotely sample-able in my collection, has been chopped and catalogued for MY use. I didn't do all of that work so some fuck-ass on the web could reap the benefits and put his or her own "original" spin on it. Sure, I'll maybe share ideas and some drum samples with friends who have earned my respect and who I work with on a regular basis, but even then I am sometimes reluctant.

So, let me say this one more time. When you are ready to get off your ass like a big boy and sample your own shit like the rest of us, maybe you'll get an ounce of respect.

kids these days...

sample the guitar lick at the beginning of Hot For Teacher by Van Halen. And sample the blues guitar in the vicks commercial with jerome iginla. that would be tight

The riff that starts this tune would be really sick. This is one of the most epic jazz pieces ever.

Also check out "Little Man" by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. The intro bass line would be super dope. Let me know if you use either, I'd be stoked to hear what you come up with

Find them yourself!

If you posted on a music forum asking for people to give you their samples that they spent time digging for, you would get ripped apart. You're lucky NS is so kind.

Here's something I did sampling an old soul tune:
