Anyone have any trouble shipping internationally?

so i shipped a package via usps on the 5th of october. it first went to the international center in new jersey, and then arrived abroad on the 20th of october. On the same day that it arrived abroad, in the destination country, the tracking information says that the "Origin Country is Preparing Shipment". I get a message from the guy I was sending to on the 2nd of November saying he went to the post office because he was worried it was taking too long, and they told him it was there but it isn't anymore. They cannot give him a reason, even though it was addressed to him. And the tracking information hasn't been updated since the 20th of october. I started an Inquiry with the International Inquiry Center, but this could take up to 90 days for them to even get back to me. I was just curious as to if anyone else has ever come across a problem like this shipping internationally? and if so what did you do to correct the situation? Also any suggestions would be helpful. I asked the recipient to go back to the post office nearest to him and try the tracking number again, hoping that maybe something has scanned the number recently and they just haven't updated the online tracking. It's just getting really frustrating because it was shipped almost 2 months ago, arrived there over a month ago, and it hasn't been seen by anyone for that month. I still have his payment, and plan on holding on to it until this is figured out, but I cannot imagine how pissed this guy must be. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
don't hate on my grammar, i am in a rush to get to work. + K for helpful posts.

I had the same problem shipping from Maine. After 5 weeks it finally got there...it was lost, found, lost found, and delivered.

did they at least keep up with the tracking information? that's the part that's really bugging me, they haven't updated it in over a month.

I did not purchase a tracking number for that one. I did call USPS and they tracked it and left messages on my phone with where it is.

bump, if anyone else has had a bad experience shipping internationally through usps, could you just give me a rundown of what went wrong and how it was corrected. The buyer is out almost $300 bucks worth of gear, and if it can't be found I will return his money and take the $300 loss. Someone give me some ideas besides an ak-47. (not funny, i know)
