Anyone hate how "white" our sport is?

I don't like how inclusive our sport seems. everyone is white. the most amount of black people i've seen on the mountain is two. i've also never seen any black skiers. (besides bmos). what are your thoughts?
 
I will agree how white our sport is, but hey, its the last sport that white people are good at... im just messin, go people watching at big ski areas and you will see an increased amount of different races on the hill.
 
Well I guess they are missing out. Nothing can be done about it. There are no restrictions based on race.
 
I havent seen very many snow covered mountains in those parts of the country. What should be done about it? If it doesn't appeal to them then so be it.

There was a black skier in one of Faction Collectives edits and he was dope but I can't remember which one

and i agree that our sport is mostly whites, but it's not like we're tryna segregate and prevent blacks from skiing. if they want to ski, there is nothing stopping them from doing so. its not our fault that most blacks don't get involved with skiing
 
It's not like we exclude people from other races to get into the sport, honestly money might be a part of it, but also it's just not something that other races seem interested in..
 
I too am bothered by how white the snow is, aside from the spring time when the snow tans a bit
 
The majority of the African American population lives in the south east. We studied this in AP HUG a bit. There aren't any substantial places to ski or actuall snow.

no subtext in that whatsoever. was using uglyboy's statistics he posted on income/wealth, and then just stating that it doesn't seem to interest people of other races. Nothing discriminating about that at all

This is as ridiculous as a black person saying that they don't like how hip hop is too black.

I don't hate how white our sport is. It's been part of European/Asian culture for longer than the bible has even been around. Why would I not be proud of that heritage?
 
even hockey is mostly played by white people and nobody complains. it's just based on the area in which people can ski or skate on ice, it's not racist at all

I could honestly care less what the demographics of our sport or any other sport is. If people want to participate in a sport or activity (with a few caveats), they will find a way to do it, regardless of race or economic status.

I mean lets be honest, the last legitimately racist sport that immediately comes to mind is golf. Augusta (where the Master's is held) required caddies to be black until 1959 and didn't allow black members until 1990 (or women until 2012 for that matter). Any other sports that are that discriminatory?
 
A lot of black people don't like the cold, and for the most part they don't live in the mountains. It's not a white sport for $ or being exclusive.

I have a few black and asian friends that fucking shred. One of them used to throw doubles.

Also who the fuck cares. this is one of those "hey look it's this thread again" situations.

white people tend to be more wealthy. black and hispanic people generally have a harder time affording it.

Anybody can turn their life around no matter how broke their family is. If they work hard enough, they can earn scholarships and get into college.

Yea the majority of nba players and a ton of nfl dbs are all black and they make millions on millions of dollars. What few black people I've seen skiing they shred hard

I'm Hispanic n people trip a little bit when I tell them I ski. I love skiing it's sick and other than cycle n climb a little, pretty much all I do. Arizona has 3 places to skis n they're all pretty diverse but it's Arizona. It's nice to see more people getting into sport.

its really not that big of a deal to me, honestly. I recognize people aren't able to afford skiing and stuff, and that's fine. I understand that, and realize we're pretty fortunate to ski, but at the same time, a lot of people just hate the cold weather, and probably don't even have an interest in winter sports, so it goes both ways really.

We shouldn't be going around and making people feel bad that they're white and get to ski, though. Just recognize that we are very fortunate enough to ski and play in the snow, and leave it at that. No reason to say you "hate" a sport because its too white. Its the equivilant to saying you hate the NBA because of all the black players. Its a dumb-ass argument, really.
 
it's one of the last sports that white people are still good at, so let's enjoy it while we can.

OP is the biggest loser on this website. Quit worrying about other people and start worrying about yourself. Who cares that our sport is 99% white? Thats just the way it is...whether it be demographics, money, etc....its not going to change anytime in the near future.

Quite the white guilt crap. OP is a massive racist for just thinking about that. Be happy you were born into a family that can afford to ski and lives near mountains. Tons of races ski...I see them all the time. Black people don't like cold weather as a demographic...notice where the majority of them live in the US? The black belt as shown by a previous post

I just thought that black people are pretty athletic and would be good at skiing. I don't feel guilty that the majority of people who ski are white

Easier said than done my friend. I don't disagree, but the systematic oppression of people of colour is embedded into modern culture and it is relentless. Taking scholarships as an example, in 2007-08 the distribution of merit-based grants given out was 75% white with black grants given at a mere 9.5% (granted this was a few years ago but I'd be surprised if things have changed dramatically since then). Taking grants into account, the average annual cost is more than one-half the average annual family income for low-income students.

Just something to consider.
 
it is a white sport but when I skiied in whistler I was surprised at how diverse the skiing is out there. But on smaller mountains you'll probably find more white people, big mountains more diverse.
