Anyone got any foam?

My brother and I are looking at attempting to build a foam pit and we were wondering if you guys have/know of any places where we can get foam to fill our pit. The lower the price, the better!

Thanks

Prepare to spend thousands to get enough foam for something like this. I think you guys are getting in way over your heads. Cool idea, but may not be realistic.

Well we are not ready to spend thousands but we have a couple ideas of how to get foam. We were just seeing if anyone else had any ideas that were better than ours....

You can probably get big ass foam boxes at the fish store on Roosevelt, they use them for shipping fish and they get a bunch every few days. Check craigslist, lots of people on the ave throw foam away constantly (the Vespa shop I think). Also... Dumpsters for electronics shops, best buy, frys, etc. TVs always come with tons of foam.

Thanks. These are some good ideas. I will have to look into them a little more.

Our other idea for harvesting foam was to get free couches and furniture and take the foam out of that and try to get as much free foam as possible. Then we would buy whatever else we needed

You are talking about polystyrene foam. I don't know about you, but I don't want to be jumping into a pit of PS foam.

What you want it flexible polyurethane foam. It sounds like the OP has a good idea on where to source. However, there isn't much foam inside a couch. How big of a pit?

^Yeah true, but there's no way in hell they would be able to pay for any other type of foam... Its pricey.

One other idea: those sleeping mats that they used to sell before the air mat was invented.

And then you'll have a bunch of old nasty couches (lets not get into how disgusting it'll be jumping into a pit full of foam from free couches). So you'll have to take the gutted couches to the dump.

Also how big is this going to be, and where is it going to be? Thats going to be a mighty big whole to dig (i.e. rent a backhoe?)
