just graduated from u wisconsin but realized that what ive really always wanted to do is be an outdoor educator/ ski patrol so i'm planning on doing more school at cmc. anyone go there? how is it? how's living in leadville? im pretty stoked but could use some good info!

Leadville isn't the most exciting town, a lot of it has that old mountain town feel and comes with a lot of old crusty mountain guys who have been there since the 50's/60's haha. Copper is the closest ski area which is about 20 min to a half hour away. The only time me or anyone I know goes to leadville is the summer for all the stellar camp/hike/backpack spots around it.

I'm assuming you're looking at it since that CMC campus has employee housing? I'd suggest taking a look at the steamboat campus as well, which is a lot more remote than leadville but you get a lot easier lift access from the campus.

Leadville is a beautiful little shithole of a town surrounded by badass mountains. As was mentioned above, it's mostly old mountain men and donkeys. There's a little resort called Ski Cooper just out of leadville and LOADS of backcountry.

There are CMC campuses in Glenwood Springs, Steamboat, Breckenridge and Aspen (I think) which are all lovely places too. I live between Aspen and Glenwood right now and this valley is pretty awesome. Steamboat and Breck are both fun ski towns too.

if you want to ski more and have a fun place to hangout and get some nightlife... go to cmc steamboat or breck. Leadville is nice... when you want to be there. Its got awesome hiking and camping, but that's really all it has going for it

I live in Leadville right now, my roomie attends CMC here, he loves it. Rent is cheap so it's nice if your a broke college kid. There are quite a few young people that live here and the bars can be fun, but its no Vegas. Driving to breck/keystone/vail in the winter isn't bad at all considering the difference in cost of living.
