Anyone from croatia?

i thought you all were exterminated.

but yeah my great grandmother is croatian

inb4 cool story

whats it like there?

well thats some fucking ignorance. What's your stance on those dirty lazy blacks? Or your stance on those alcoholic indians? Or those stupid mexicans? They're all probably illegal too yeah?

Shut the fuck up you ignorant asshole.

did you really just try to compare alcoholism with nationalism? actually, how the fuck are any of those even slightly relevant to people taking pride in their country? please tell me that that was a horrible attempt at trolling...if not, im speechless, and i genuinely feel sorry you.

stereotype (ˈstɛrɪəˌtaɪp, ˈstɪər-)

4. sociol a set of inaccurate, simplistic generalizations about a group that allows others to categorize them and treat them accordingly

Do you not know what a stereotype is?

He was comparing how happygaper stereotyped ALL Croatians as being annoyingly nationalistic...in the same sense that somebody might stereotype ALL Native Americans as being alcoholics, or other common stereotypes.

Anyway.....

I just spent about 10 days in Croatia this summer. I've visited and lived in countries all over the world, and Croatia had some of the nicest people of any place I've been. They were always happy to answer questions, have a beer and talk about their country, etc. Even the cab drivers in Split were stoked to chat with some real conversation. Beautiful islands, great weather, and I felt quite safe even when the girls in the group were on their own at night.

One of the top 5 countries I've ever been to.

...i understand that. now that you know i knew he was talking about stereotyping whilst i wrote my response, go back over what i said and see if it makes sense to you this time. like i said, they are totally different things. one's a harmless personal opinion (in other words, it means nothing), the others are general, and somewhat empirical consensus' shared by many people (i know, that sounds bad). i guess i didnt word it as well as i could have, but you get the point.

Both of my grandparents are from Croatia, and we go there about once every two years, they now have an apartment in a place called komiza, look it up its one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been (coming from someone who has traveled all over the world). My dad speaks croatian and I am trying to learn, its not easy though haha

One's a stereotype, that all croatians are nationalistic. And the others are, oh guess what, stereotypes. That all blacks are lazy, that all mexicans are stupid. I have no idea what you're trying to say. He was clearly pointing out the generalization happygaper made...

I think you are talking about ones you met who live in the US?

Well that would make sense because people from that area of europe moved to the US relatively recently. It's similar to how the Irish and Italians were very nationalistic back in the day to the point that they had their own communities within NYC.

So I see where you are coming from because I am first gen Macedonian (my dad was from the "old country"), and my family is super nationalistic and it can be kinda annoying sometimes. But you just gotta understand that thats how everyone once was.

Im half Croatian, my dad's family came from Zagreb and moved to Austria when all that shit went down. Stayed in a refugee camp for years then moved to the U.S. and thats how I came around.
