Anyone else think jiberish pricing is getting a little out of hand?

I get that youre paying for quality and that its an exclusive brand, but 92 bucks for a hoodie seems a little steep to me. Id love to see some kind of cheaper alternative for us broke guys out here.

Jiberish is moving more toward producing high quality, durable streetwear. While of course they will continue to sponsor skiers and riders, I personally would never wear their stuff skiing as it puts unnecessary wear and tear on the clothing (along with it being a poor choice for piece of outerwear because of the lack of waterproofing).

While the link above is a bit of a joke, sweatshirts can be found insanely cheap, if that's your style. If those aren't your fashion prerogative, there are many rider created brands (off the top of my head, The studio clothing, Edoggo, arsenic apparel, TAF) that offer "cool" hoodies at a lower price point. Finally, if you NEED it to be Jiberish, there's always the BST forum.

Complaining about the price doesn't really do much. Pete has chimed in on the forums time and time again that the increasing prices reflect the increase in the quality of the materials and care in production. They will continue to produce at that price point because people will buy them, and the new, higher quality stuff opens up a new, emerging (streetwear/menswear) market for them. If you don't dig it, don't buy it.

^^^ That about sums it up. Quality, fit, and the name are all things that explain the price.

I thought it started out of hand and you turds were just dumb enough to think you were getting $60 worth of t-shirt to look like a fuckhead

any one who buys jiberish = idiot

if I see someone wearing that shit I automatically deduct 10 points from my initial assessment of their IQ. combine it with ns logo shit and most of you would be lucky to hit double digits.

i get that they wanna be some high end hipster fashion statement these days, but look at their market. the fact is skiers are still shitting their pants to buy the newest 4xl nightmare for a hundred bucks. do you really think there are fashionistas out in denver buying some purple striped, oversized vest to look trendy?

i personally think that they have realized that ns kids will throw any amount of money on their parents cards to get something with jiberish on it and are overcharging us. also, saying jiberish isnt made for skiing/that it shouldnt be worn skiing is just ridiculous.

It may be hard for you to understand that there are other niche markets out there, but trust me, there are.

Those are just three examples of entire websites catering to "fashionistas". It is a very real, very profitable market. I can't find the "purple striped, oversized vest" that you're talking about, but if you look at their recent offerings, you'll see that many of them are much more "toned down" that what they have put out in previous years (not to mention that streetwear has a history of ridiculous, oversized clothing, see coogi sweaters).

You're welcome to hold to your conspiracy theory, I just think it's a lot more reasonable (and it makes sense from their design choices) that they are attempting to take their brand in a new direction (especially since Pete has confirmed that this is the case, multiple times). I would even go as far to say that I bet the majority of Jiberish purchased in their latest drop will never be skied in.

Jiberish is not made for sking. They are known for sweatshirts, not technical outerwear. Their brand HAS had a close affinity to skiing since their inception, which I find awesome. Your overcharging argument has no base, do you know how much custom cut and sew hoodies cost to produce? How much their raw materials cost by the foot? If you don't, there is no way you can honestly say that they are overpriced, except in your own opinion.

Because of the name attached to it. Just like how Kanye West sold plain white tees for $120.

This statement contradicts your argument. If people are willing to pay the price, why lower it.

Ah...guess I misread it the first time.

Either way, yeah, they can charge whatever they want, the do increase the quality every year (my 08/09 pieces are thin as shit, while my Vault from last year is much thicker, warmer and better quality). But honestly, it's their business they can charge whatever they want, and they're not the only option out there.

They are already there...
http://hypebeast.com/search?s=jiberish

And

they are already sold-out of most of the Jiberish pieces they had too.

Hell, Hypebeast shot their own Jiberish lookbook for the site.

Haven't

seen a "purple striped 4xl nightmare" since 2008-09-ish either. Which was

around the same time all the other streetwear companies were making

larger fitting brightly colored sweatshirts. Say what you want about

the brand, they have been at the front of every single fashion trend in

skiing since their inception. Everyone copies them. And over the past 4

years they closed the gap between true fashion and skiing lifestyle.

Name one other company in snow that is executing at a level that is even

close to approaching where Jiberish is. They are rock solid on everything

they do. They have their own incredibly well designed boutiques, they

make high quality unique clothing, and their branding is as clean as it

gets. They blend street, action sports, and fashion as well as

anyone.

There's so many other options out there, who gives a shit what jiberish charges. You simply dont have to buy it lol frankly I think they are played out but I could care less how much it costs and who buys it.

I just think that the original lohi's were about the right price for the quality, they were only like 70 bucks give or take? I can feel that the newer lohi's are thicker but the overall quality level is about the same, and a 92 dollar price tag is definitely enough to make me look elsewhere. I'm not complaining, if you can afford it I do feel like people are far more aware of the brand than the old days... so there is that "status" I guess that comes in the streetwear world. hopefully I'm not too off base here but that's how it looks to me.

Not a broke guy brand. Jiberish is becoming more of a designer fashion brand. Their prices are similar to other high end designers they're trying to compete with.

I don't know what you consider high end, but I wish a lot of the clothing I like was as much as jiberish, then i could actually afford it

ok didnt mean to step on anyones toes on this, some people are taking things a little personally imo. all im saying is that for a skiing company, theyre prices are starting to get a little steep for your run of the mill broke college skier.

im not saying jiberish sucks - i like jiberish and have owned a bunch of their pieces over the years

im not saying jiberish are scumbags - high end fashion is a great market to make money and its great for jiberish to get into that niche

it just irks me a little that a company that made its start in skiing and still sponsors skiers and such is charging high-end prices for hoodies that were just gonna buy and shred on the hill.

and to all the people who are chirping in with "if you dont like it dont buy it" mentality, the same applies here. if you dont like my opinion then ignore it. i dont want a flame war or anything here, just stating what i think

They are just trying to expand there niche market of just skiers to those that our looking to drop a bit more on nice quality street wear. And it's obviously working if most of there stuff on the hypebeast store sodd out, it's just a smart business move.

Just because Jiberish started with skiing roots, that doesn't mean they're only allowed to make products for the ski bum market.

i would assume that with how high of quality Jiberish's new stuff is, you wouldn't even want to ski in it. just get a cheap hoodie. Sure if you still want to wear Jiberish on the hill, go ahead, but i think its safe to say most of Jiberish's new stuff is more street wear oriented.

I also think there hipsterness is getting a little out of hand too? Anybody else miss the straightup logo lohi and jiberish? Ik they still have some but there not even good colors. Thats a completly different topic though

I would like to add here that Jiberish is not quality stuff. The materials and fit they have is not worth the money you pay. I have absolutely no problem in spending $100 for a vest or a flannel or whatever but i will no longer be purchasing from jiberish due to the lack of quality for their pricing. I honestly have an obsession with clothing and spend ridiculous amounts of money on nice quality but i paid $100 for their street wear type vest and the quality absolutely sucked for the price i was paying. I follow a lot of hypebeast and its pretty sweet that jiberish is on there amongst many amazing companies but i dont think their quality is up to par for their price. For skiing there stuff is still pretty sick for skiing though.

Ya not the highest quality. The backpack i bought from them which was supposed to be "high quality" ripped in 2 weeks at school.

I think they've improved quite a bit lately. Hoodies are beefed up this year, button ups are improved, and hats are really sturdy. I agree with you about the vest though. I felt one in person and was not impressed with the quality.

Yeah they for sure stepped it up but I just don't think that they stepped it up enough to support their prices

Honestly though what is so much better about the quality now than it was years ago? I own two clothing items from Jiberish and I can say they feel good and well made, but to say they're any better than my other sweatshirts would be an overstatement. I feel the terms "quality" and "beefed up" are thrown about pretty loosely when talking about Jiberish.
