Anyone else think its fucked up that Pollard doesnt ride his own Bacons?

well i've noticed after watching Pollard's self edit and the Sir Francis Bacon product video that when he is on the Bacons, his are rockered whereas the actual consumer Bacons are very NOT rockered. i know that he has perks and can have skis specially made for him, but does anyone else think that it is unfair to make a product video on a ski when you aren't even skiing on it? it is kind of disappointing knowing that he doesn't ride the ski that the public rides unlike Abma or Seth who ski the same ski as anyone who purchases from the manufacturer, ya know?

im not hating on pollard or anything, but i found it dissappointing, thats all.

thoughts?

im pretty sure there just eps with baccon topsheets. its for marketing i dont see anything wrong with.

he skiied this years bacons 3 years ago. ever seen focused, those skis he was on definitely were not in the following years line. when people say he's ahead of his time, they mean it. line is such a pollard-driven company that he can ride whatever the fuck he wants whenever he wants. wait until the rockered bacons come out in 2011.

right, but in that case, he can't give an accurate review if he's not even riding that ski... it just seems odd to me that he wouldn't ride his own ski. given he does ride the same lizzies and ep pros, why not the bacons?

ok here is what the line rep told me when I asked him about this. he said that Eric is always testing new skis but line makes him use the top sheet from a ski you can buy for marketing reasons. The 09/10 Bacons will be rockered(He showed me pics of them). Eric was testing different amounts of rocker this past season, thats why you will see some clips of him on bacons with a little bit of rocker or a lot of rocker. Alot of pros ski special skis. look at simon dumont. He was skiing the 08 dumonts with the 09 graphic. Back when Tj was on armada he had special AR6s because he would brake the normal ones. Its just a part of skiing.

They very well could be prototypes so maybe you will see a rockered bacon in the future, but for the most part you should just shut your mouth because you are completely ignorant of the situation~

I found it a bit odd, i noticed it in the product videos, but couldnt see enough to tell if it was actually rocker, and when mine came they aren't. Which is quite disapointing, you think "oh, pollard can ride powder sick even without rockered skis" ...hence the bacon, but then his are, general publics not. Not really Line's fault, i'd say 'misleading' Still a very sick ski though.

Makes me re think where to mount them.

ALSO: they do have early taper which lets the tips of the skis flex more in powder, so it floats up and doesnt tip dive, then when you want to charge it down some groomers the ski is alot more stable and responsive....which is quite a plus, and think about the advantages if you want to venture into a nice groomed park. So I guess not having rocker isn't always a bad thing, unless you want a really noodly ski like the hellbent. (please don't reference how Benchetler and Bibby(Summer Camp on Hellbents edit i think??) slay it on everything...cause they're not human haha

I thought the same thing when he was riding a ski with a 130mm waist with his pro models in his add for his pro model which had an 86mm waist.

plenty of those shots were with the same model that you would buy in the store.

But furthermore the idea 99% of customers should be on the same skis as the pros is kinda ridiculous.

pollard skis a super fat supper soft incredibly rockered ski that is really only good in supper deep snow, as a high end pro he has the luxury of getting to ski that sort of snow most of the time. It is very hard to find a non pro that gets that sort of snow that often. and those that do usualy know enough about skis to not base their opinions on a product video. Furthermore Mr. Pollard is a way better skier then any of you.

other examples:

Nobis skis a 200+ cm XXL, again 99% of skiers out there would not be able to handle that ski.

Rossi big mountain team (sage, treadway, etc.), ski a stiffer longer version of the s7. not the supper soft 188 that you find in stores.

Also I am pretty sure Abma does not ski a 182 or whatever czar, I am sure his are longer then that.

I'm pretty sure the Bacons have some rocker to them, it actually brings it up in the product video,"they have early rise". and maybe when you look at bacons in the store next to eps or hellbnents they just don't look as rockered, but in fact they still are compared to most skis. Another point I'd like to make is that when you ski a ski in pow for a while it begins to take a bit of a rockered shape as it beocmes broken in, I've seen this happen to my Anthems, That is my opinion on the topic, I hope this helps

seth skied rockered skis before they were big, or even manufactured by companies other than volant

i think if he's good enough to get his own pro model then he can do what ever he wants with his skis.

pollard is designing and testing so many new prototypes it would be hard for him to be stuck on the same skis.

hellbent are reverse camber. It is almost the same thing though. Not to put you in your place or anything. But I would think it is false advertisment or a prototype. My mom is a market consultant and she says things like that hapen. It is similar to what Fast food places do. There ads with those juicy burger are like sculpted. They wouldnt taste good

He can ski whatever ski he wants.

But I think for a product video he should at least use the skis he's talking about.

no

hellbents are rockered.

and pollard probably rides them when he isnt filming, usually while filming either hes skiing powda or riding park so why would he use bacons.

I got to meet and hang out with him for a little while two weeks ago at my companys big ski sale.

He showed me the 2010 graphics for the EPs, Bacons, and Beths. They're so dope.

Close, but reverse camber is a continuous curve throughout the ski and rocker is more like elongated tips and tails or raised tips and tails with a flat spot underfoot.

Thanks for that explanation, I appreciate it. Sooo....all reverse cambered skis are rockered, but not all rockered skis are reverse cambered?

Rocker:

notice flatspot under foot on the 2 pairs on the right, those are rockered.

the pair on the left has regular camber, reverse camber is the opposite of that, with a continuous outward curve.

but in all seriousness it is very wack he wont even put his skis on for a day and film a couple shots to PROMOTE THE BACON ON THE BACON INFORMATIONAL VIDEO.....I DONT CARE IF THEY ARE 10 YEARS FROM NOW BACONS THAT HE IS PROTOTYPING......THE INFORMATIONAL VIDEO IS ABOUT THE 08-09 BACON

did the video inform you about the 08-09 bacons? if he wasnt constantly prototyping skis we probably would have the bacons or the ep pros....

yea the video should be look at me shreading the bacon, the ski you are watching this because you are thinking about maybe buying.....not oh that ski sucks we can do better.....

I thought in the Bacon's promo video on the website he said they incorporated the early rise this year. (line's name for a rocker). Maybe not though. How do so many people not know the difference between rocker and reverse camber!

If I were Pollard and still riding for line I'd hope I could ride whatever the fuck I wanted

early rise is just when the tip comes up early. rocker is like a rocking chair, reverse camber is less like a rocking chair and more like they reversed the camber on the ski,

dont get me started on reverse sidecut!

all that crap is for whimps anyways.

bottom line.....bacon promotional video, maybe show the bacon in action? thanks line. for the mothership you didnt have a bunch of shots on the anthems....

NO.

It's been explained already! Multiple times!

Early rise is just what Line likes to call rocker. It's the same thing.

Rockered skis have a flat spot underfoot (see above pics), reverse camber is a continual curve (see waterskis)

Talked to pollard tonight at triple threat, he said he likes to use his bacons later on in the day~

We brought up this subject and he kind of laughed it off. He said next years EPs will be stiffer. I like my noodles but I dont think most people are comfortable with em~

So yo uthink R&D should be left up to the engineers and not the guy who puts his name on the ski? Riiiight...

Id rather see footage of Schuster or Ike tearing it up on the REAL BACON.

Dont get me wrong I thin Pollard is the man, a true innovator in todays skiing world, but this video misrepresents the product in question. Pretty weak........
