Anyone else burned out?

I've been skiing every season about 30 times a year since I was 8, I'm 18 now and in college, and I've gotta say, I'm not really looking forward to the new season. Every other year I have, but I'm really just not pumped. I live in Colorado and so I have a huge variety of resorts, but I'm sick of all of them. I sorta feel like not even heading up at all this year, let alone get a pass. I've kind of plateaud as far as my ability goes, I rip moguls and backcountry and I'm okay in the park, I don't really feel like I have the ability to get better. Has anyone else ever had a season like this? If so, what'd you do and how'd you get over it?

yeah, i turned to snowblades, and it really worked for me, every snow storm seems so much deeper with those things on

it's all about just refocusing your energy. I felt the same way a couple of years ago, and only recently did I decide to apply myself to the terrain park. to rediscover the joy is a philosophical experience. I started to re-appreciate the sensations of turning and catching air, and so on. It's all in your head man.

yeah i know how u feel, ive felt that way about other sports like I just look back on how long I have played soccer and just now I realized how bored I've been with it the whole time and realized I really wanted to quit for good but skiing is far different, there is always something new to do or new jump or cornice to huck off of. I know other people like you who have gotten bored with snowboarding and skiing but I could never get bored with it. skiing is my life

and more, much more than this, I did it my way

when i would only ski on the weekends a few years ago, i would get burnt out pretty hard by the end of the season, but i was always stoked for the start. I skied 80+ days last winter and i didn't get burnt out a bit. Its all about keeping it creative and fun. Ski backwards more, do some shit that scares you, find little jibs and jumps to have fun on. But if you really just aren't feeling it, skiing isn't life to everyone so don't worry about it. if you're not enjoying yourself, theres not really a point. Unless you have your image wrapped up in skiing, then if you keep doing it for that it definitely won't be enjoyable. So to sum it up, find away to make it fun again, or just stop doing it. You could always start teleskiing, alot of people do that when they start getting bored with alpine skiing.

last year, my friend only skied 8 times. EIGHT TIMES. i did about 10-12. we could never get burnt out. this year, we get cars and such, but school and all, we'll go like max. 20 times. east coast weather and all...thats why i wanna go so bad.

You mentioned that you're not as good in the park as you are in the backcountry & moguls... so... start skiing park more often and improve there. After that, take what you've learned from the park into the backcountry and vice-versa. Progress yourself.

I have felt the same way at times. It is like you feel as if you are just wasting your time. There are so many other things in life, but why have you kept skiing? There is a reason there. You are going into college and have a lot of other things on your mind, but think, there is a reason you have skied every season since you were eight. Here is what you have to do: Find a goal, and acomplish it. Whenever i fell like i have plateaued in my skiing, I reflect, and set new goals. Where I teach at a freestyle hill, it is easy to think that I have plateaued since I learn so fast. But, when I have mastered the 7, I went for the cork 7. That is what I love about skiing. I love being in the air and progressing in my tricks. What do you love? The powder, the backcountry, cliffs? What do you feel like you could improve in? The only way that someone wants to continue doing something is because it constantly changes. Why do people change jobs so much? Because there is almost no change in a job, it is really monotonous. I worked at a golf couse one summer, and played the course 300 times. The only reason ikept playing was because every time i went out there, i knew it would be different, nothing is exactly the same every time. Keep your skiing fresh. Set new goals every time you reach a current one. Doing that will keep your passion in skiing. Wow, that was a long post.....

im so addicted to skiing, the North American season wasen't enough for me so i went to New Zealand and skied everyday of the summer there, there is always something new you can do in skiing, i havent skied in 5 days and its driving me nuts, im going through withdrawls

I hate you Gdawg, you depress me, but then i remember that I am in college and am looking forward to my room mate having a wrx, and the fact that i just bought new pants/coat and that I am going to jackson hole again this winter and that I love this sport. NO WAY IN HELL COULD I EVER BURN OUT ON SKIING, you puzzle me

-If people don't want 'Posers' in their sport they should quit skiing and take up knitting. I highly doubt that anyone 'Poses' as a knitter. -Jibtech

i kinda understand what you're going through. the same thing sort of happened to me last year. i was car-less and some of my really good ski friends were at other colleges. it was hard to get excited about the upcoming season, but when the snow first starts to fall and all the little poser kids on campus start talking about how good they are because they can ski a blue then you'll be ready.

however, come october and you're not even the least bit excited then it's time to re-evaluate your motives to ski. i played soccer for 12 years and realized i hated it because it just became so much work and wasn't fun at all and there was so much pressure involved. skiing is the exact opposite for me. no one really expects a certain level of skiing from you at all times and you're able to do your own thing.

also, come down to jibij (2714 28th) and watch ski movies for a few hours, talk shop with the riders, and look at the new gear. maybe that will spark you interest a little more.

Have to say I can't feel bad for you, come spend a season in NY and you'll change how you feel about living around amazing resorts and skiing everyday!

I know what youmena, although it hasnt happedne to me in skiing really, well somedays I dont feel like skiing so muhc, like off days. But for some reason I know what you mena. And I think what everyone else said are good ideas, such as make sure to try new thigns and whats more important is, just relax and have fun. If you dont feel like hitting it hard that day then dont, just cruise around, its fun.

That feeling comes and goes for me. It hit really hard when I went to college, but I started to miss skiing. Really bad. You have a lot on your plate right now and just relax and have fun. You'll know whats right in the end.

Wow, some of you guys came down way too hard. I didn't say I liked skiing, I just said it hasn't consumed every fiber of my being like it has in the past. I'd love to just go dedicate myself to the park and park only, but the problem is I fractured my skull last summer, and my surgeon said that under no circumstances can I go in the terrain park. I love skiing and always will, but I'm wondering if anyone's just taken a season off?

I've been hardcore all my life, but I find skiing losing it's grip on me, and I wanna know if I can get that feeling back by just taking it a little more easy this winter. I do get pumped up waiting to show up little posers, but that's not enough. The real reason I ski is for the true enjoyment of hitting deep powder, killing a mogul line, ripping through trees, and bombing a steep bc line. I want to get that almost euphoric enjoyment out of it again, but I don't know if I could this season.

We have an old saying down on the bayou....Blehhhhh!!!

And a big middle finger goes up to all the people talking down to me because they think that it could never happen to them and that they're 'core' and therefore better than me. Guess what bitches, I've been doing comps since I was 12, I probably own most people on this site in everything except park (although I'm still pretty f-ing good) and the first word I've used to describe myself since I was 4 was skier. This is a bigger problem than being spoiled living CO or anything else. Fuck everyone ripping on me instead of trying to understand.

I'm so excited for the season, and when i got my new skis it just made it worse. But hey, i see what you mean, try skiing with some new people or something.

Wearing your goggles and clothes around your house doesnt make you any more hardcore it just makes you a faggot.
