Got a job lined up in Niseko. gonna be there from start of dec till end of feb looking for people to shred with. gonna get myself some bentchetlers soon too :) not sure how manys newschoolers gonna be there but hope so!

There are a few NSers planning to be out in Niseko this winter. Rosbif and MitchPee are two that I know of that'll be working there. There is also another guy who works in a shop there, but I can't remember his username - check the regional forums.

Where are you going to be working?

I live in Hokkaido. I'm just north of Sapporo, so a couple of hours from Niseko, but I'll certainly drive down there quite a few times over the winter. Give me a shout if you fancy hitting any of the hills in central Hokkaido, as that'll be my stomping ground!

Myself and cjgncjgn are going to black diamond lodge from december 25th to jan 9th. We should meet up and shred some gnar!

Iv got my own place just outside Niseko for the season. If you see a bloke driving a red Swift thats me, probably see most of you at pubs etc i presume

i did a season there last year, and i think your going for the perfect time. after feb its gets very boring. there is nothing to do but ski and drink there. and once the snow gets crap and the bars close... well, you know.

but saying that, best snow ever! had the best season last year. i dont think whis pow is gonna compare this year tho :(

hey buddy, its Sean. Hows it going?, havn't talked to you since niseko last year! You coming to whis this year then?, Jono and Tom are planning on working in Whis but ill be in Vancouver and Whistler for the whole season. Drop me a line some time.

How expensive is lodging, food, lift tickets etc in Japan. I am thinking of taking a trip there, and am going to blow all my money on a plane ticket, so i was wondering how much in debt i am going to be??

hey, I'll be up there for almost 3 weeks from late december through early January! I'm currently living down in Kyoto, taking some vacation time to go get my JaPow shred on. comin up alone so definitely into meeting some nsers up there

I'll be back, Ridedoctor and hjb will be there too.

Locky, don't be such a whiny little bitch! You only didn't like it after February because Swaik wasn't there for you to spoon ;) For anyone going, don't listen to him, March is awesome too.

For those guys asking about housing costs and stuff, I would love to help, but don't really know, cause my house is sorted through work.

^^ well i meant more of a vacation type lodging so short term. But do you know how much tickets cost/food. Thanks

http://www.grand-hirafu.jp/winter/en/ Here's the mountain website with ticket prices.

For food, you can eat out from like 750Yen (8 USD)for noodles, buying stuff from the Seicomart could get you through pretty cheap, maybe 10 bucks a day, if you want to survive on packet ramen, you could do it for less though.

Here's what I'm paying for 14 days, i dont remember roughly
850$ lodging at BD lodge(inc. breakfasts), but i got an early bird 15%1450$ flight~600$ for lift tickets for 10 days53$ for shuttle from/to airport+ food, booze, etc.

yea they have a couple sick shops in Niseko. You can always go into kutchan and they have a wider selction of gear. I'm trying to remember the name of the store but they had like 20 sets of FT at 30% off and they have a bunch of old FKS's that they were blowing out for pretty cheap too.
Its called "something" sports blah i can't remember and its driving me nuts. If i do ill post it up

Takaguchi!!

Boot Solutions is your best bet for boots and fitting though, they have Dalbello for sure.

Yeah, Ill be in Niseko this season. Start work November 25th working for Rhythm Snowsports. Its a ski store in Hirafu. Stoked

Got my Flights for $1000 return

Season pass is like $900 I think (I get a discount off this price).

I pay $800 a month rent for my own room in a house in the middle of Hirafu

(inc utilities, internet and cable).

Anyone looking for flights (domestic) into Sapporo should check the JAL website. SO much cheaper than anywhere else. my one way from Tokyo to Sapporo was like $150 instead of $450 using flight search engines.

get the SUPER SAKITOKU rate (book 45 days in advance)

You wouldn't happen to be working for NAC would you man?Your start and finish time sound similar to mine, I'm heading over there looking to find a friendly crew to hit the hill with.

These Japan threads are getting me stoked!

Gonna be in Hirafu from around 7th December til April, working for Pro Powder ski school.

Sounds like there's going to be a few NSers, a meet up for pow shred would be awesome.

My bentchetlers came today! :) so stoked with themGood to see lots of people gonna be up in Niseko.. ill be there on the 6th of dec.. see u there!

Is Niseko the north island? I should be there for two weeks in January, so if you want to shred and maybe help me and the crew out that would be sweet.

Yep - Niseko is in Hokkaido (Nth Isl.)

Stacks of Australians, so I apologise in advance.

dat`d B me, workin at 343
looks like MitchP`ll be working at Black Diamond Lodge, lucky bastard.
mt. opens on the 20th, hopin for another sick season.

My new Line Blends arrived this morning, extremely stoked.

I'm arriving December 7th, seems pretty late considering the lifts open on Nov 20th?

Never mind, there should be plenty of pow by the time i get there.

one of our customers lost one of his last season and never found it. He gave us the one he had. I think we still have it somewhere. * fyi just in case someone loses theirs this season.

In my experience, there probably won't be plenty of pow on the 7th of Dec, the last 2 years the snow has only really gotten good by mid to late Dec. Don't worry though, when it kicks in, it really kicks in!

I got there perfect timing last year which was the 15th Dec... first day was waist, second much the same and 3rd was head deep!!The rest of my stay was much the same couldn't of been more happier.Btw if you loose your ski you can put it on the lost and found list and they usually find them at the end of the season, when all the snow melts. It has happened to a friend of mine.I'm working for a ski guide company for 5 months which i have been for the last 2 years, best experience

Does anyone have a good line on insurance for the season?

I'm from the UK and need personal insurance but can't seem to find anything relatively cheap and/or comprehensive.

Cheers in advance for any help.

BMC (British Mountaineering Council). I'm insured by them and it's pretty reasonable considering they actually cover you for the kind of activities where you're more likely to injure yourself (i.e. park/backcountry).

From their website (thebmc.co.uk):

/modules/insurance/images/Landing/policies-alpine.gif

All types of skiing plus climbing most peaks of up to 6,500m.

What’s covered:

All types of skiing including on-piste, off-piste, cross-country, touring, downhill, telemark, nordic, heli-skiing and ski-mountaineering. Snowboarding can be covered on payment of additional premium. Scottish Winter climbing, ice climbing, alpine climbing. All climbing in Europe and most peaks worldwide up to 6,500m.

What’s not covered:

Climbing in remote or inaccessible regions. Exploratory expeditions and new routes on unclimbed peaks in very remote areas. High-altitude technical climbing over 6,500m, especially in the Greater Ranges (Himalaya, Tien Shan, Karakoram, Andes etc)

I got put onto them by a mate and feel much happier knowing that I'll be covered by them for the kind of skiing that we actually do. Rather than risking it on a cheaper policy that will only cover you on groomers...

Yeah thanks I looked at BMC, however their annual policy costs £400!

Even the annual policy (93 days cover) is close to £200.

I'm sure i got a quote last year from them before going to NZ for the season and it was just over £100.

£400 seems a little excessive.

I have used BMC and they have been the cheapest I have found for annual ski cover.

Im pretty sure mine is £220 for annual cover (all season)......

I have used ski-insurance.co.uk in the past also.....
