Anybody have experience dropping classes?

So I'm frustrated as fuck right now, I am taking Business Calc this quarter and my professor flies through the material at the speed of the millenium fucking falcon. The class was originally around 60 students and it is now week 8 of a ten week quarter and we have about 28 students, the rest have dropped. I have a 72 in the class right now and just failed another quiz, which should drop me to around a 70. I know the basics of the material but my cock gobbler of a professor puts the hardest questions on every quiz an exam.

I guess the bottom line is I am considering dropping the class because I know I can get a better grade by taking it at a later time, but the problem is that it is a required course to get admission into the business school and I don't have the time to be dropping courses. I have many classmates in the same situation as me and I guess I am just in a shitty mood. Has anyone been in this situation before? Would it be smart to drop the class before my grade dips into the 60's or should I just try to stick it out?

Are you serious? You have a 70 and are considering dropping? Thats a good fucking grade!

My motto Five - O and go.

honestly, complain to the math department or college administer bcuz that sounds like some bullshit. you are paying tuition and its your grades and money on the line so don't take shit from nobody. if you got a problem with the prof confront him about it, be straight up and don't hold back. that said, if your school has a student disabilities office, talk to them and see if you can get extra time for exams on tests and quizzes. at my school for example if you have depression, anxiety, add/adhd you can get a doctor to fill out a form so that you get extra time ( time and a half, or double time usually on tests and quizzes). a lot of ppl at my college get this and i personally have it, and it is very helpful.

A group of classmates and I actually had a meeting with the dean of math a few days ago, but there is not too much they can do for us since it is so close to the end of the quarter. The dean told us that our professor is essentially "on trial" and she will have to change her curriculum for next quarter, but there is not much that can be done for us except for the math department will have a meeting with her to talk about the test difficulty and speed, and possibly a curve

honestly just stay in the class, grades usually never improve when you take a class over a second time. the prof is obviously garbage tho if more than half the kids dropped the course

Hang in there. Profs with extremely low averages often bell curve. I have profs that intentionally keep a low class average to get a good distribution of marks, then curve it later.

Also, at my school, if you fail a class, when you retake it you replace the mark. You'll probs to better on the second round than you would've normally because you already have a baseline knowledge of the material. In the meantime, wolfram and khan academy are your friends!

damn that blows... I prefer a teacher who aids the students and helps them succeed. Teachers who act like that are douches. They forget the goal of a class to teach and make sure people leave with knowledge. Not make it hard as fuck and see who can withstand the beating

Dont drop out. If you can pass then do that. A 70 isn't great but not terrible. That being said, the best advice i can give you about business calc is to MEMORIZE ALL WAY TO DO THE DERIVATIVES. Thats the basis of the class for the most part. Once it clicks for you how to do it it will be quite easy to pick up. Or go to the tutoring center. Easy to bring GPA back up after 1 bad class.

Its way too late to drop. Either take and incomplete and finish the course later with the same teacher or withdraw. Ws look bad on your transcript though. An I will be wiped from your transcript when its completed. The W will be there forever.

I think thats how it goes at least. Just tuff it out and dont be a pussy

Do you have an advisor you could talk to that could tell you how your school handles a dropout on your transcript?

I could have sworn a class I dropped out of got completely erased when I retook it

Also, hang in there and seek some tutoring or something. You've been in that class for a while now and you might as well make the best of it even if the teacher is on the outs

having a 70 still gives you a chance to improve. If you've sought out ever resource, and the class still isn't working out, take a W and try it again later.

I feel the same way about pre calc. I have like a 50 or 55 something like that because my professor is some young girl who just stand at the front of the class and writes down examples to problems and doesn't explain them. Almost all my classes are like that and since I've never taken pre calc before I went in dry and god damn did it hurt.

^ worst case scenario you're taking the class again anyway.

I don't know anything about business but if you're in first year then having a 70 after midterms isn't amazing but is decent so I wouldn't drop.

You can't "incomplete" it since you've already turned in so much coursework and you don't have a valid emergency. You shouldn't be able to withdraw, but even if you could it would look the same as getting a bad grade and taking the class again. So just do your best and finish it, and if you aren't satisfied take it again. You really don't have too many options.
