Anybody ever make homemade wine?

How did it turn out? What did you do?

I just ordered an airlock and wine yeast off Amazon, and I'm going to try making my own wine. I'm going to do a trial run with baker's yeast and a balloon while I wait for my stuff to get here.

Ive made beer wine and spirits and wine is by far the easiest. Your first batch wont be that great, but once you get it down it actually doesnt turn out that bad. Just make sure you read up on it, theres guides everywhere. Try someone elses recipe at first and then try mixing things up and creating your own.

The temperature and the amount of days you have it sit for play a huge part in how good the finished product will taste.

I did, it was ghetto as hell haha

One day at school we were talking about brewing moonshine in our lockers in a joking way and my friend took it to the next level, Brought an airtight container, some grapes, yeast and sugar to school. Long story short, we did a damn good job brewing it. Tasted like white wine mixed with butt hole. The drink came out as a sludge though.. Anyway we had fun. Good luck.

I'd suggest buying a wine kit to start and follow the instructions to the tee. Just so you've done it hands on yourself in a trial that actually worked decently well. will be much more rewarding than the piss you'd definitely make just doing in by yourself the first time.

Update:

It's been 6 days since I started fermentation, so I decided to pull it out and see how it's doing. Fermentation is still cruising along; I see tons of little bubbles. It smells bready, just like every website said it would using baker's yeast. It doesn't taste bad at all though. In fact, I'd say it probably tastes better than the juice it started out as. It's very bubbly and kind of sweet, like cheap champagne. I have no clue what the alcohol content is however. It definitely tastes alcoholic, but to what degree I do not know. In order to calculate alcohol content, you need to compare the density (specific gravity) of the original juice to the density of the fermented juice. Unfortunately, I didn't know this before starting fermentation and so I didn't measure the starting density of the juice. Once fermentation is complete, I should be able to get a very crude estimate of the alcohol content by measuring the freezing point of the wine.

I plan to let it ferment for a few more days before filtering it and drinking it. Most wine-making sites recommend letting it sit for a couple months after fermentation to clear. But given that I think it already tastes good as is, I probably wont do this. In order to keep the "bottled" product from blowing up because it's still fermenting a little bit, I'm just going to store my wine is the fridge where it should be cold enough to deactivate the remaining yeast.

In all, I definitely recommend trying it if you're underage or if you're just curious about making your own wine. I cut just about every corner I could, and mine turned out just fine. If you actually did everything the websites tell you to, (wine yeast, real airlock, iodophor, secondary fermentation, letting it sit for a year, etc) I bet it would taste pretty darn good.

Also, I should mention, when all is said and done, I think I will have about 5.5L of wine. Excluding the sugar (of which I used about 2 cups and had in my pantry), the cost of the ingredients was a little over $6. This is substantially cheaper than even Franzia ($12 at my local liquor store), so if your goal is to get drunk, I can't think of a cheaper way to do it.

tldr: Almost done. Wine tastes good so far. Highly recommend it for people just trying to get drunk.

Ive made "hard cider" aka 4 gallons of apple juice, sugar and wine yeast. Tasted like shit but got me and my friends fucked up. we would play drinking games with it and take shots of it rather then sips of beer. It was a super fun drunk but didnt taste to great

We did, we bought some grape concentrate or something like that from a company online, then we just did the steps they showed us to do on videos. It turned our alright, no great through

My last batch of cider was absolutely revolting, it had a 13% ABV though. The amount of sediment in the bottom is enough to make you not want to drink it, and then you have to deal with after taste like you've eaten a loaf of bread. When it's iced it's not so bad to chug. But it's definitely not a drink to savour.

exactly, I got rid of all that shit at the bottom cause it was gross. I was super happy about the level of alch in it tho, made it a fun drink to have 4 gallons of
