Any jibby bois tried dps phantom 2?

oh is that that wax thing they have? sounds doubtful to be better than wax to me but i'll keep my ears open as people get to try it

Haven't had a chance to use it on one pair of skis for more than ~15 days, so I can't attest to the "permanent" nature of the treatment. But all the Phantom-treated skis I've used slide very well. I don't bother waxing skis cause I'm switching between skis all the time, and the Phantom-treated skis are (unsurprisingly) faster than all the skis I haven't waxed in a while. They're sticky at super slow speeds (e.g., sliding around in the lift line). But as soon as you get moving, they're fast. I don't prioritize fast bases enough to wax skis a lot, but if I was only skiing a few skis, I'd definitely treat each one with Phantom and just be done with it. I think it's an awesome concept, particularly for people who don't typically bother with waxing their skis.

that's surprising to me, given how knowledgeable etc you seem to be. why is that?

Mostly just laziness / convenience / being too busy. I'm typically skiing around 50+ different pairs of skis each year, and I also typically work 50-60 hours a week. So I just don't really find it worth it to take the time to wax all those skis very often. Plus, I ski at Crested Butte where the terrain is steep and I don't have to deal with a lot of slower, flatter runs.

If I was only skiing a few pairs of skis, I'd definitely wax them more often (or probably just treat with Phantom).
