Anyone here spin? (spin records I mean)... if so, what do you spin... how long have you been spinning? etc..

Matt

So hold on, instead of buying decks, you bought a stereo for a car you don't have? haha... riiiiiiight.

Matt

I have a super old setup...and i'm soon to get a new one, im not sure what though. maybe you could help me out on what to get for a beginner? later.

T-lo: I would suggest buying middle-low quality Geminis (www.geminidj.com) to start. Just make sure that you do NOT get belt-drive decks as they're pretty useless and will just frustrate you. If you have the money, I'd obviously suggest getting tech 12s, but there isn't much reason unless you're going to spin 12 hours a day, every day.

So yeah, as long as the decks are direct-drive, then they should be good to start... check out eBay.. I ordered mine through there and got some mint condition Gemini Xl 12 (their top model two years ago) for about 300.. they came with a terrible mixer, but I've since bought a new one... speaking of mixers.. my suggestion is to get a mixer with a 'cue fader'. This acts exactly as the crossfader does, but for the cue (headphones). The mixer I started with didn't have any cue levels, only a switch to select a channel and it made mixing much harder then with a cue fader. It'll cost a little more, but I think it's totally worth it.

Anywho, hopefully that helps.. let me know if you have anymore questions.

Ask Kev.. hehe...

I guess it depends... for some reason, I didn't find it too hard.. but I had been playing around with VTT on my computer for a couple months, so that probably gave me a good start... try using someone else's decks at first and see how much you like it.. try it a couple of times until you can pull together a solid(ish) mix.. then decide what you really want to do.

What kind of music are you into?

Matt

i listen to mostly punk emo stuff and then rap hip hop type stuff.

I have some numarks and a DXM06 mixer and a milk crate of wax.. everything from hip hop instrumentals and accappellas to drum and bass and chuck mangione records to dirtstyle break beats

Technically I don't spin records, but I push buttons like a champ and I play good music-In my not so humble opinion.
