Another “what car” thread

Lol, I can't resist a Subaru hate thread!

I won't defend Subaru's "feature-not-a-bug" decision to spec lower weight engine oil to improve their emission standards, but the solution is just to... add oil between changes. And use a heavier weight oil like 5w30 in the summertime at the expense of slightly worse mileage, if desired. The leaky gasket thing is related to the lower weight oil spec. If online accounts are to be believed, oil consumption seems to be worse for some people more than others even in the same model-year. I have a 2013 Forester too, and I love it despite the oil consumption. No actual problems over the 30k I've put on it so far beyond normal things like a lightbulb swab and a windshield replacement for a crack. But it's my first car, and I'm biased for that reason :). Subarus still have good resale value. And it fits a few bikes on their sides wheels removed, and my field equipment for work.

Good luck on your search!! Keep in mind the cargo space in your picks, for camping.

Can't beat a Rav 4.

Check out Carvana. They gave me $5000 more than anyone else offered for my trade in, and I feel like I got a great deal.

Feel bad for whoever ended up with my old car tho lol

Bumping this cause don’t wanna make a new thread.

has anyone built out a land cruiser specifically a 100 series to sleep out of?

as much as I love my tundra, the access cab sucks for dogs and a double cab truck sounds miserable to daily, and don’t do much truck stuff besides camp/sleep in it. So if I can fit into something more nimble and not as long that’s a plus.

main thing is just how tall can I be? I’m 6’4, tried building out an xterra but was way too tall to fit comfortably. Land Cruiser looks longer, maybe a 4Runner too. Don’t want a sequoia

I am very close to purchasing a car after some things lined up perfectly.

after a lot of consideration, I am looking a 2004 Rav4 with about 87k miles. Everything runs great except gets a little shaky over 80 on the highway. Dealership said they balanced the tires and I’m gonna give it another go today. It’s $10k which is half the price of other vehicles I’ve been looking at which is a big plus, but I’d very basic on the inside and is a little small I fear. But the 2nd gen RAV4’s have 50-50 all wheel drive which is also nice

on the other hand, at the same dealership, there is a 2014 CR-V with 85k miles about. It’s $17k which is abouuut on budget for me, even though I would like to spend less. But it’s like the top of the line CRV from that year and has a shit ton of fancy amenities like heated seats and Bluetooth and such that are pretty attractive to me. I’m on the highway all the time so I’d be nice to have creature comforts like that. I haven’t test driven this one yet but probably will tonight

idk should I spend more and get something that is probably a little more sturdy and comfortable?

or should I keep it cheap, sacrifice highway comfort and high speed stability, and go for more off road capability (I know it’s a soft roader don’t @ me)

LOL at the CX-5 idiots. Have fun dealing with that junk engine with cracked cylinder heads and a failing fuel pump.

$10k is way too much for anything made in 2004. WTF.
