Ok I read this article and thought to myself how lame Americans can be. http://www.9news.com/news/world/article.aspx?storyid=76646

No one in this fucking country can take responsibility for their own actions. If you spill a cup of hot coffee in your lap and get burned its MCd's fault because they didn’t have a warning on the cup telling you the coffee is hot. Coffee is always fucking hot!!! Or if someone goes and kills a bunch of people, it’s the parents fault…they didn’t hold them enough as a young child. Or there is this story right here…Some kid gets his toenail ripped off in an escalator….its CROCS fault because he was wearing crocs and they got caught in the escalator. Im sure the kid wasn’t fucking around trying to slide down the escalator or something. If he was wearing some DC, or Nike shoes it never would have happened hahahahaha PLEASE!!!!!!!

This is kinda off subject, but that was an absolutely terribly written article. It's like something a twelve year old would write....

Oh yeah, it is incredible how sue-happy we are

I was in the post office the other day and some lady came in and started screaming and crying about how they dont have chairs for her to sit in since she has some back injury and requires a walker. After pissing off the manager and all the other people in line, she sits on the floor and started crying about how the ACLU was 'supposed to make things better, but no nobody will do ANYTHING because they're afraid of being sued!!'. I really just wanted to shout "WELL THEN WHO'S FAULT IS THAT YOU DUMBFUCK?!" Seriously, they dont do this shit in Europe, what the hell is America's deal? Do we just have freeloading idiots that think its their god given right to receive money if misfortune falls on them?

You're missing it. It's not because people can't take responsibility for their own actions.

We are in a social and economical revolution. In a country devoured by capitalism and greed, people often look for the easy way out. This country is losing all moral values in place of greed because you see all these news reports on how people sue for ridiculous shit and it causes more and more suing.

Humanity has become so materialistic that by any means we will get money. Greed will continue to destroy the morals of this country just as long as we let it. The real question is can we let it go? Have we lost so many of our human morals that we may never be able to go back?

I can tell you one thing...I'm not going to be the one to change it. The people who will change it are going to be the ones who are held down by it. With a shrinking lower class and growing upper class, it's not too hard to see some major changes in the future.

i'm surprised there isn't a mention in the article of a lawsuit being filed.

I work at a major home/furniture retailer in the safety and loss prevention dept and i can't believe how many retards we get. we have a big online database full of video clips from surveillance cameras of people doing stupid shit. most of the time, these people instantly blame us when they do something stupid like trip over a display or curb or something that is clearly marked. then we show them video of the event and they usually change their story.

i remember one video where a lady was in the checkout lanes. she had one small child in a carseat balanced on top of the cart, and another child (3-4 yr old) hanging on the side of the cart jumping around. she was also about ten feet away from the cart looking at something the other direction. of course, the kid on the side of the cart tipped the cart over. she instantly blamed us, threatening lawsuits due to unsafe carts, ect. then we showed her the video of her not paying attention to her two small children and allowing them to do whatever they want. Her case went out the window pretty quick.

yeah the reason lawsuits like the mcdonalds coffee incident are so publicized is big corporations want people to give up rights to sue.

our ability to sue is the only thing that protects us against businesses abusing us. which they do all the time. you would be surprised how often companies make products which include ingredients not yet proven to be safe.

believe me, its better to have a few frivolous lawsuits than the alternative.

Not that it may change how you feel about it but that wasn't what the McDonald's case was about. The coffee was way too hot, in that it was roughly 25 degrees hotter than what the human tounge is able to distingush. Additionally by making there coffee super hot McDonalds saved some cash. If you think about it negligence is certainly severable, for example you fell down the stairs and broke you leg because you suck at walking but it didn't help that they had shitty drainage and were always wet.

I might be wrong, but I didn't think the upper class was growing and the lower class shrinking? Maybe you're talking about the widening gap between rich and poor?

No, it's because there are a lot of really really ridiculous lawsuits. No offense man, but it's really really cynical if you actually think McDonalds was trying to abuse their customers by not placing warning labels on their coffee cups.

i read the headline of that article and thought holy shit, wtf do escalators and crocodiles have to do with eachother?

this country bitches about freedom, its the biggest fucking crock of shit ever.

Some bmx and mountain bikers built alot of jumps near 495 in virginia. it was a sick sort of biker terrain park, but local authorities found out about it and tore it down, because it was "unsafe"

How can we say we are bringing the freedom to other nations when some kids are not even allowed to shovel dirt in the middle of the woods to make jumps.

there is no freedom in this country as far as i am concerned

the only thing that pisses me off more than people who have no right to sue, is people who have a totally legit case that cant sue

oh wait i forgot to say, this is my favorite part from the article. "

"The doctor confirmed the boy's big toenail had been ripped off almost completely. "

Like i wonder how that happened. The doctor was at the press conference and was like "ahem, unfortunatly, we were unable to save the boys toenail. As of now we have hired the virginia state police to anonymously shoot an unarmed civilian so that we can obtain a donor toenail.

like jesus fucking christ its a toenail it will fucking grow back.

you know i think the obese people in this country that live off the government are sorta like the flood in halo, they just grow like a fungus

Technically it's government property.

It has little to do with freedom and more to do with land usage.

My ex's brother almost got royally fucked for some con-artist bitch that tried suing Fed-Ex.

He was working and delievered a package at some bitches place. Well he left it on the front porch because she wasn't there and the package was set as one that could be left without a signature. Well he got a call no more than an hour later from his superior saying the woman called saying that she never got her package, that someone stole it and had all these important legal documents in it. She said, of course, that she was going to sue Fed-Ex if they didn't find her package. This went all the way up to the CEO of the company it was that bad. So my ex's brother had to look everywhere for it fearing for his only job.

A few more hours later, an investigation came up with a security camera showing that bitch coming out and picking up the package. Fucking whore. It's sad that people live like this only to sue people.

Wow...

You said right next to an interstate...federal property son. My property is MY property. Eminent domain is the only thing that can take that away.

Well, crocs are known to be dangerous.

but the problem is there is a sort of defect, its not like the kid tripped and chipped 2 teeth and blamed his shoes. Those shoes do get caught in escalators, it was in the national news. Its the fact that the company never tested the shoes and automatically blame something else.

But do agree on your point, people can never blame themselves. For example, climate change, people find every excuse from the plausible to the absurbe so that they dont have to change their lifestyle...or make a profit. I find that blaming myself for consequences due to my existance is easier and makes me a better person

The problem there is how is a company supposed to test their product out in every possible situation. it is not possible. there will always be some situation where any given product is not tested where it will fail.

I think the fault is on the little boy. you are not supposed to keep your feet on the escalator and let it wedge you up onto the ground. you are supposed to step off of it. in my opinion, he was in the wrong.

You should go to canada you fucking nazi. If you have such a problem with America get the fuck out. I actually didnt read the thread because im sick of kids thinking they know what they are talking about when it comes to politics. So fuck you and the horse you rode in on.

that may or may not be so bad. If you think about it its the people who award millions of dollars to these people who are really the stupid ones.

I assume that you refer to the law that states that the federal government may purchase your land from you for its full value. Of course, if you disagree with that law, then you should probably not ever make use of federal roads, or else you would be a hypocrite.

WOW look at this douche bag everyone. If you would have read the fucking article you would have seen the point that I was making you fucking piece of shit.

yeah, thats bullshit. when it comes to civil law like that, our legal system sucks.

if you spill your coffee, trip on the sidewalk, get caught in an escalater, tough shit.

survival of the fittest, if you can't handle it, kill yourself.

look at it this way: americans are brilliant, but fucking assholes. i mean come on. i heard about that mcdonalds coffee spill thing and that lady sued mcdicks for a million dollars or something and WON. look how easily she made a million dollars! man i wish i could do that. of course its a huge asshole move, but a million dollars!

clearing the mother in the article had not learned anything from "mallrats"(1995 Dir. Kevin Smith) where i learned the escalator is a potentially dangerous machine to be feared and respected.

and any shoe or loose article attached to or carried by a person could potentially be caught in this monster so to blame one kind of shoe shows the level of stupidity she enjoys. i pity her poor kid - not cause he lost a toe nail but cause due to genetics he's got a 50% chance that he will be just as stupid as his mother!

Yes, but this defect has been flagged before, but the company denied the problem. What I wanted to say is that they should recreate the situation of the incident and determine the cause of the defect after the first incident.Remember that people use object in what they are not designed. It is but normal a product will fail if not use correctly.

Remember the kid is 4, not 16, he does not know any better. The company should at least warn the parents to the potential dangers when acquiring the product.

North Americans in general need to take a trip to Europe and learn about responsibility. So many people just assume everything should be handed to them on a golden platter and just have a disgusting perception of what is realistic. North American society is just so babied in general. If these people would live 6 months in Europe they would maybe quit blaming everyone for their own ignorance and laziness.

the whole thing with the coffee and why she won is the coffee was served at such a hot temperature that it wouldnt have been consumable. thats because mcdonalds served it so hot because they figured people would drive for a bit until they drank it. so mcdonalds was at fault for serving coffee that was way to hot. dumbass

To the people saying America sucks: you are retards. Third world countries suck. America may be full of douchebags who feel entitled to money whenever bad shit happens to them, but it is still one of the nicest places on Earth to live. So don't talk shit about America the country, just make fun of stupid American people.

well if it is not what the object is designed for, why should the maker of said object be held responsible.

Belts aren't designed to go around your neck, but every once in awhile you hear about a kid who strangled himself while jerking off. if i understand you correctly (and I may not) the belt manufacturer should be held responsible.

and if you have a 4 year old, you should be very careful and teach your children how to do stuff, like ride escalators.
