Think about this for a second NS. No fossil fuels at any stage, not even the distribution and delivery required for all gas stations. Think of the implications if 85% of our foreign policy woes were no longer tied to the Middle East. Think about what it would mean if we controlled -- really controlled -- our own energy resources. You want green? (even though I personally believe the whole green movement is bullshit) How about emissions you could drink from the tailpipe? Think how this country could come together with a go-to-the-moon initiative that is apolitical, would benefit 100% of the population, and would provide a positive legacy and endowment for those who will follow us.
"Fauxbama" (still prancing around Europe apologizing for America, the same America that saved Europe and keeps shipping it aid and commerce and, almost forgot, provides for its security) shouldn't have fired Wagoner two weeks ago, the GM board should have, four years ago. And, unfortunately, instead of switching America from oil to water (which could be fundamentally accomplished in eight years), Al The Goracle and the Federal bozos will keep tilting at windmills and wasting your tax dollars for another generation. I just don't get it NS, I just don't.
 
could an infrastructure really be built for that cheap? for 70% of America? and how is everyone supposed to get one of those cars in the next 8 year? who is going to pay for it? this looks promising but i dunno about it working on a large scale
 
solar panels creating enough energy to produce enough hydrogen for everyones car? I dont think it's possible.

what the first world has to start doing is not just using "green" energy and focus more on using less energy.

cars are fucking huge when you think about it, think about how much energy it takes to get that 3000lb car to get your 170lb ass to work.

hydrogen isn't going to save us.
 
Hydrogen isn't a definitive answer, it poses a lot of risks (car accident + tank filled with hydrogen kaboom) and involves a lot we don't understand. I like solar, that's the development i want to see prioritized, whether batteries can be made to be non-toxic or whether hydrogen fuel cells comes later.
 
this truely is the future of the car. it is all well within our reach and we have been dancing around this idea for almost a century now. from what i remember, from a reshearch paper i did last year, i believe Norway took a 400 mile section of interstate and surrounding roads and populated them with several hydrogen fuel statons. this is the first "large scale" implantation of the hydrogen car. and if it goes well then it will start to spread all over the world.

the reason these things take forever to happen is A. we are addicted to oil and our SUV's, B. not everyone has the funds to buy a hydrogen car. C. this is still relitivly new technology and people question its saftey. because when they hear hydrogen vehicle they picture the hindenburg.

but i think that we should go through this change but i just dont see it happening anytime soon
 
cars today dont burts into flames when they get in accidents, and gas fumes are pretty combustable.

hydrogens different, no shit, but it's not hard to make it safe.

 
Solar tech just isnt there yet for this to be feasible, but hydrogen cars are probably going to take over eventually.
 
the chemistry for hydrogen cells is just not there yet. within the next 10 years though, maybe.
