So here’s a video of my last backflip at MHSSC in summer 2016... Super proud of it, but I’ve only skied 10 days per season since then. I’m determinedly to go for another one pretty soon (I’ll be in Montana for a college visit). So has anyone ever tried a backflip after 2 years? Should I just trust my muscle memory?

just trust it bro. i didnt go on a trampoline for a solid year and i got it first try. same thing will happen with skis

theyre like bike riding man, once you have it you have it. i take it from a guy who barely skis these days, you don't just lose em

trust your muscle memory but def make sure you get the first one around, dont let your year of daydreaming inspire a way-too-slow flip on the first one back haha

Find after doing them religiously for 10 years with out falling, and now taking a couple years off I find I'm over rotating. Gotta sack up and get a couple.

well, better to over rotate than under! i'd bet that's why youre doing it too, you just know you might be rusty so youre playing it safe and getting it around. id rather over-rotate 20 of em than under-rotate a single one, under-rotating fuckin blows haha

Yea for sure. Under rotating would suck. I normally find a pretty good balance, but you can see right here (first attempt on a park jump) I tucked and then realized I could lay out.

Have people get you hyped. I did one for the first time riding with some people at cutters camp. Then was almost another 2 years, barely riding park and 3 a few riding in a demo because people love flips. The last 2 summers it had been2 years and 1 year since i flipped. Ended up theowing them in demos and then theough them pretty much every time cause people love flips.

But yeah muscle memory was there. I think i over rotated one at cc because i hadnt been riding at all or really hit a jump. Then next time i undershot slightly because speed issue and jump was small table in a parking lot. Just clipped and faceplanted but stomped the next one. Rotation felt great though.

The last 2 summers it came right back. Im in the same boat. Havent been riding park and havent done one yet in the northern hem winter.

I gotta send err

Good luck op. Just get hyped uo and do it

with that said tho, spring riding coming around in two weeks and with my homies there's going to be some pressure to backie train again. I've done plenty of backflips before but don't like doing them in general. It's been probably a solid season and a half since my last one so i will report back to see if my advice is correct in due time.

if i don't reply.... call eheath

Make sure to pop when you go off the lip (don't huck the flip around, jump up like you're doing a straight air) - set the flip, keep your shoulders and arms in front of you, spot your landing, rotate your lower body back around and ride away with a couple nice style turns

The fact that you haven't done this trick in a while shouldn't be too big of a concern as long as you approach it confidently and smoothly with a good understanding of the things you need to focus on to ensure success.

1. Pop

2. Set flip well with shoulders and arms in front of you

3. Spot landing

4. Rotate lower body around to bring the trick back to your feet

idk, i feel like under-rotating and over-rotating can be similarly bad. As much as it suck falling flat on your face, falling flat on your back is debatably worse.

I find when I try them, sometimes nervousness will just get me to huck so much harder than i need to and go 1.75 lol, that shit straight knocks the wind out of me

Watched the video. It seems that you forgot your poles.

Ditched them for the backflip because I don’t want to get impaled, my poles don’t have straps

Maybe I shouldn’t overthink it since I’ve already done the flip, but it’s always confused me to pop straight up as people say. I have this fear that I’ll just stall out instead. Could you explain a little more (thanks!)
