Andy Mahre Is Skiing's Next Truly Great Skier

Even though there is no real reason for me to make this thread outside of my juvenile desire to have some sort of record of this claim, I am slightly interested in the reaction it will receive. I am interested because, as the title indicates, I am here to tell you that Andy Mahre is skiing’s next monumentally great skier, and I say it with complete confidence.

I know what you’re thinking, and you’re wrong. It’s not Corey Vanular, Sammy Carlson, Jacob Wester, or anybody else that you can think of. (While those three guys are all superbly talented rising ski stars, and pretty nice guys, they are not the next great skier. I also place stress on the word next, because I would never discount the potential those young men harbor.)

Within skiing we have thousands of amateurs, hundreds of “pros”, many established professional skiers, and a few indisputably great skiers that are clearly a cut above the rest. You don’t even have to ask who these aforementioned greats are, you just know.

If you really need examples, for the sake of clarity I can throw out names like Tanner, Seth, and Pollard. (If you adventurously wanted to guess the most recent skier to enter this holiest of groups, you’d be correct if you said Pep.)

Now I’m not saying that Andy is going to wake up tomorrow, roll out of bed, and realize his feet aren’t touching the ground because he’s so good he now strictly levitates. I’m just saying that if you give it some time, your 20/20 hindsight will show you the truth. He will be the one. Some have come before him, many will come after him, but he will be the next.

Footnote:

The fact that Andy is guaranteed to read this thread makes it instantly “gay”, and if you intend to point that out, you should clearly note right now that I am aware.

to give you argument some more weight, why/wht has Andy done that is different to any other skier of his 'era'. all the skiers listed in your 'greatest' list have done something unique. absolutle no-doubt that Andy has a super fluid style and is always extremly smooth but... something to null over.

I can honestly say that his part in the Hit List is one of my favorite ski parts of all time. From the song to the flatspins, it's all there.

But yeah, this thread sorta freaks me out. Maybe you could like cite some certain things that make you feel this way instead of... um. whatever you just said.

i think hes a really good skier, but in SKEEZE magazine, he said that what his dad did in the olympics was easy, and that he had much more talent.

That sorta changed how i view him, but i still like wacthing him ski

neeeever did he really say this cause that sucks. i feel like that guy in anchorman that idolizes ron until he says fuck on tv.

I think a little bit more than a zero over pyramid is in order to be the next great skier. yes, that is an incredible trick, but you need more than that. Pep had that huge 180 off that cliff, some sick switch progressive stuff in the backcountry, swtich 5 over chads. I think he's right for saying andy is the next great skier. I just want to know exactly why he's saying that. Given time, Andy will be one of the greats, I think.

Did anyone maybe notice how this thread is in the future tense? It makes no sense to ask for evidence that hasn't happened yet.

The strange thing is, Dave, I didn't think you were that big a fan of Andy.

i dont know much but i will say this... i've heard things.

my explanation: The Tank grants super-human powers.

i would definately show a snowboarder andy mahre's seg above any other skiier. he has the freshest style, and makes use of the ghetto slits on his pants, and he kills it everywhere. that rainbow rail session and the shifty out in his war part parralells crichton for the sickest rail style ive ever seen. i think him and dash are the two most underapreciated skiiers in the game

if the dave says it, then it must be true. hallelujah, the messiah has truely come again!

no but seriously, i have incredible amouts of respect for mahre...he's going out everyday doing his own thing whil countless people are bashing him, and he just tells 'em to fuck off. thats where its at.

andy, you da man.

and dave, you da man, but not as much as andy =)

He's amazing. He's definatly on his way to the top. However Corey Vanular also has tons of potential. He's already pushing to sport more than pretty much anybody out there and he's not even in his 20s

word word word! amen to this. anyone who is in doubt is gonna shit their pants and surely change their mind when they see what andy did this past winter. he has completely changed my perspective on freestyle skiing. a true revolutionary...

that is true, I have acually talked to companies regarding ns and they have refered to it as the so called "hatefest". I have respect for the those companies who come on ns to see what people want and listen to what people have to say.

no dude he fucking kills it. andy marhe is sick. and i could definatly see him as becoming one of skiings greats. his segment in war was crazy. he destroyed that rainbow rail he was doin. and hes so smooth

andy mahre is sick but your statement about vanular not being the "next" great was wrong. by the end of next season the skiing community is going to be kissing the ground that corey walks on. seriously watch, you can say i dont know what im talking about but he is truly a virtuoso and is going to be considered the best soon.

just his shots in the show n prove trailer and lss trailer blew my mind. and his flatspin 9 mute to japan was ridiculous

Well Andy and Vanular are very different skiiers. Andy is more into mad stylie stuff and the BC booters and what not. Not saying Vanular isn't stylie but he's more about crazy tricks and tech stuff

crap youre right, I don't know why i always though it was chads. i just watched war and its pyramid. Im stupid.

The Dave never is always right. if you question him, you shall be smighten. we shoulds worship him as if he were a god. (hence the capitilization of The Dave).

yes, i did infact say something along those lines. but, what my dad did was not easy. he worked his ass off. but you cant compare a racers ability to a freeskiers ability. sure, he will beat me down any race course....forward. but turn around backwards, and i'll be at the finish while he's hiking to get through the 5th gate. now take powder skiing for example. i guarantee he wont outski me, and who's to know if i could outski him?....forward. turn us around backwards again. i'll be at the bottom looking up and laughing at his cartwheel tracks. need i say anything about kicks, rails, or pipe? as an all around skier, i will claim im the more talented athlete. you may think im conceited...and confidence usually comes across that way. just keep in mind that i made this statement in the sense of comparing our all around abilities....and until he proves me wrong, im standing behind what i said.

too all the supporters. thank you. to anyone who has doubts. THANK YOU!

now this thread has lost all credibility...right?

i could beat my dad in a ski race... but he's fat and old so it prolly don't count. hahaha

andy's dad's prolly like crazy jux like andy who is most likley even crazier.
