I need to get a new phone next month and am planning on moving to a Smartphone. I have always wanted an iphone but androids are the big thing right now and i want to know what the deal is.

Which do you think is better and WHY

ty +k for help

PS dont tell me repost, i want up to date answers

I have a Droid. And here is what happens.

You purchase the Droid, everything is great. You think it's the greatest thing since twin tip skis.

And then wait about 6 months.. the screen starts to freeze and flash, internet slows down by 10x, and soon it gets to the point where you're unable to operate it without it calling or texting random numbers and letters to your contacts. It's happen to me, my sister, mom, and almost all of my friends who have Droids. They're great for a while, but then they just break down and can't even handle simple tasks. Go with the iPhone, my Dad has had one for 3 years and still hasn't had a problem with it, and I'm upgrading to one next week as well.

iPhones are SO much nicer. My dad has a droid, and I have an iphone, and everything is better. battery life, internet browsing, but the interface is the best. texting and games work so much better on an iphone, and dont let any droid fanboy tell you differently. it also has better apps. go for the iphone

This is how I feel. I have a two year old Eris and I want to throw it against the wall atleast a couple times daily.

clearing cache and a few other basic maintenance things will completely solve this problem. it happens with iphones, too. the longer you have them, the more shit you accumulate on the device which hinders performance.

to the OP - it depends on what you want to do. if you're tech savvy and want to be able to hack the shit out of your phone, then go droid hands down. if you don't really care, and won't be doing anything super technical with it, then it doesn't really matter which way you go. both are good products.

Oh, you mean that battery that you cannot replace? The one that requires you to be near a charger once a day to be able to use your device?

That's one thing I hate about iPhones - you can't have a backup battery. Smartphones chew the shit out of battery life....all of them do. At least you can have a secondary battery with a droid.

Not a fanboy. I own both devices. Both have their strong points, but the battery is definitely not a strong point of apple products.

i guess i've never had an issue with my iphone battery. i don't leave the wifi on at all times, and i close apps i'm not using and my battery lasts and lasts.
i can always connect it to a computer or a wall or my car when in doubt but idk, never been an issue. all comes down to personal use patterns.

i vote iphone, because yes i have one and i have zero complaints about it. app store is great, tons of variety, batter life has been good for me, everything else has performed up to and above what i expected.

I clear all of that all the time, kill apps, and have even had to do a hard reset over 4 times, nothing has helps. It's just a shitty phone.

LRN2Electronics

Buy a droid, root it, overclock it.

I had the OG droid until a few months ago. I overclocked it and it ran at 800 MHz. When i upgraded, it was faster then when I purchased it. Then I got the Thunderbolt, rooted it, and overclocked it. It's running at ~1000 MHz. It's faster than any iphone I've ever used. Plus, the thunderbolt has 1 click rooting.

Droid.

I think I should be impressed, but I never really LRN2Elegtroniks.

I'm not super tech savy and the iPhone is something I find incredibly easy to use/

it really just depends what android you get. I've had my droid x for a year now and its as fast and works as well as the day I got it. There are different classes of android phone and if your comparing it with the iphone you should only be considering the high end phones.

Iphones slow down and break just as often as the high end androids.

And for all you people who claim your android has 'broken' i bet you've just bogged the system down with pointless shit. Back-up your contacts, apps, and photos and clear your factory data and cache and it will run like the day you bought it.

If your gonna own a 'smartphone' you need to be a smart owner.

But yea, obviously the iPhone is a great choice. maybe also look into the motorola droid X 2. Same phone I have and love but it's got a duel-core 1 ghz processor and higher density LCD.

Also casio makes a indestructible (G`zone) android that can be submersed 10 meters in water and has a shatter proof screen. My roommate just got it and its really nice. Good option if you like to ski/swim/shower with your phone.

The thing is though that most normal people don't do that, hell I'm decent with most electronics but I don't want to take the time or effort to do that. It's just a phone, it should be able to operate correctly without having to be hacked.

This pretty much.

Everyone saying they don't like their Android, what service and phone are you running? Every Android phone is different, and every service is different. My X on Verizon is amazing, my roomies Evo on Sprint is amazing, some of my other friends running Android phones suck absolute balls.

If you are a "power user" I say go for an Android phone without a doubt. Root it, clock it, enjoy. If you just use your phone for calls, occasional browsing, some apps, well, still go for Android, but you I guess you could go iPhone.

I would go iPhone because it is more user friendly and the interface is easier plus apple is pretty good with customer support. And if you get an iPhone I would wait a bit because this fall the iPhone 5 comes out!

Have you tried the Liberty ROM for rooted GB? Fucken amazing, I highly recommend it. If you have any questions shoot me a pm

If you end up wanting an iphone, remember theres a new model coming out in sept ish time. So either wait and get the latest phone (4gs or 5 whatever they end up calling it), or wait and pick up a cheaper 4 (which are still pretty good)

I have the HTC Incredible 2 and I really like it. It's smooth, clean, easy to use, and works well. It has an 8mp camera that takes great pictures and videos (iphone is only 4mp, not a big deal but worthy for comparison); it has a 16gig harddrive that fits all the music I really need portably and I can still hook it up to my mac and put music on it just as easily as with iphone/itunes; it doesn't necessarily have all the apps that the iphone has, but there are usually equivalents........flash works when you're on the internet. I also think the keyboard in Android works way better--it's a better size and it provides better guesses at what you're trying to say so you can shortcut/correct mistakes faster.

Overall, I think the Android platform is just easier to use...all the people saying their phones are shitty and whatever are missing the fact that their either not using it as they should be or it's really old and 95% of products you buy will wear down over time, especially compared with all the advances in technology just about every month it feels like.

And lastly, this is totally subjective, but I hate how the iphone feels. It's like a box in your hands with totally hard edges, especially with a case on it, whereas my phone has rounded edges that make it feel right at home in my hand. For some reason this was a really big deal to me, especially when Apple's other products' ergonomics work so well.

The guy at the verizon store told me they're basically the same phone cause they're going for the same price point, but the Incredible 2 picks up with those extras that the iphone is lacking. He totally had me sold and it was the first time i feel like a salesman has been 100% on point when trying to sell me something. Definitely wouldn't trade it for iPhone and would definitely buy again if I lose it (however, there's an app for that :) ("Where's My Droid" is a lifesaver!)

And if you wanna add an extra $100, get the Thunderbolt. My roommate has it and it's sick, basically the big brother of the incredible 2.

My dad has AT&T for his iPhone and he had more dropped calls over a week in California on vacation than I've ever had with my android phone on Verizon (still at 0).

Oh, i forgot to mention, my urban database app is only going to be available for android ;)

at least until i have some time to learn how to write iphone apps

Haha, I didn't even know GB was available for the DX. No OTA's for me. I was running Liberty on 2.2.1 and it was decent. However theres a bug that won't let you use the video camera after streaming Pandora. I recently switched to Rubix and am diefintely diggin it, battery life is great, no glitches. Guess I need to Unroot and hit up GB though.

i have always been a PC guy, someone who liked all the techy shit and like being able to get customized and what not.

but recently, i decided against a droid and went with the iphone. best decision. the iphone just works... it does what i need it to do. i cant get to customized, but i dont need to. now that im older, i've realized that i have better things to worry about and i just need a phone that works.

and same thing with computers. after i got the iphone and realized that i just works, i decided to get a mac for college. got a 15 inch macbook pro and havent looked back

if you are gonna go with the iphone, wait like 3 months. then the next model (5 or 4S) will have come out, and the 4 will be cheap

To sum everything up:

If you want a phone that's got a simple interface that your grandmother can understand, that isn't really that fast, get the iphone.

If you want a phone that you can one click root and is badass and runs over 1000 MHz and can beat up your enemies, get a droid.

yea, its kinda a pain to root GB. You've gotta SBF back to 3.40 and then root and flash a custom GB .zip update from Bootstrap. There's also a .apk that is suppose to allow you to do it from the OTA GB update but i couldn't get it to work. There definitely are a few minor bugs (still only in 0.9 beta) but overall it runs very smooth. First rom I've tried so I'll have to check out Rubix.

But if you really want to, I've got all the files you need to do it so let me know.

simply put, i suggest android if you want to be able to customize your phone easily even with the stock software. if you want a very simple phone that is smooth but somewhat hard to customize, iPhone (but wait for the next one to come out)

I do throw mine against the wall daily, the thing is such a piece of shit. Constant lock ups and freezes contacts switching pictures, calling someone I didn't click on... fucking hate my phone.

Can not wait to get an IPhone 5

i can agree to this part, when i first got my incredible it was awesome, since then i lost interest, the only way to get it to work like it was new was to restore factory setting all the time. Plus the hardware of the iPhone is unbeatable i love my new iPhone and will never go back.

The Eris is the biggest peice of shit ever. Don't pass judgment on Android phones based on it. I feel bad for anyone who has had to use an Eris.

Clocking lets you Overclock or Undervolt. Overclocking gives more speed, Undervolting conserves power. Use whichever you feel necessary.

It all depends on what you want. If you want a phone that sets shit up for you, is very limited but very easy to use at the same time, in a familiar format, then get the iphone. If you like being about to customize how your phone looks/runs and don't mind learning a whole new format and OS then get a droid. Droids are waaayy past iphones just people are too lazy to learn how to use them.

Obviously this is all different if you jailbreak your iphone, but you have jailbreak your iphone to be able to do stuff you can do on droids as they are in the box brand new.

I have an iPhone and love it. I can't see myself having any other phone. I like that it's simple and easy to use. I used a droid the other day and was a bit overwhelmed (perhaps that's just because I'm not a big technology guy, but whatever). I think they are beyond superior to all other phones. That being said, I have friends with Droids who love them as well.

I would suggest playing around with both and seeing which one you like the most.

A Toyota Yaris is simple and easy to use compared to a Ferarri, however a Ferarri is beyond superior to a Yaris...

seewhatididthere.jpg

yeah but an i phone is the equivilant to the simple easy to use yaris... but the yaris has a ferrari engine under the hood.
an android is fierce looking like a ferrari but has a yaris engine under the good.
androids are a poormans iphone.
they run slow and are just shitty phones. nothing compares to the i phone

hahaha what? about 50% of the "droid" phones on the market now are 4g and have dual core processors which is 10 times what the iphone has. Saying android is a poor mans iphone is stupid, the iphone is the dumbasses droid.

ummm..... I think the iphone Itself (not the interface) looks nicer than alot of the droids out nowadays. But saying it's not as powerful as the iphone is going a little far.

i've owned two androids and an iphone. the two androids were pieces of shit. my iphone is a godsend. I don't care about 4g or whatever processors they have. I don't know what that shit is. I do know that two androids being huge pieces of shit and frustration for months caused me to buy the iphone and i hvent had one issue with it yet. and everything about it is just easier better and just simple. And facetiming your naked ex girlfriend when she is on vacation with no computer is pretty fucking chill. i dont think you can accomplish that shit with an android.

And this is why your entire argument is invalid. Thanks for proving how stupid and young you are though,.

Im interested to know what models of Android these were? Also yes, Droids can video chat, on 3g, 4g and Wi-fi to boot. I dont think you can accomplish that shit with an iPhone.
