The reason they cut pay was because hospital janitors were making more money than people who were g\doing everyones wages in human resources. There was no way it could continue, so they had to cut pay. The strike ended on monday, and just like canada nothing bad really happened at all.

 
i love it when canadiens come on singing about how very clean their country is... these people have obviously never been to surry, quesnel, P.G. or any of those other dusgusting pulp mill towns. the dang residue spewing from those smoke stacks make the trees around Prince George yellow. ever been to the frazier valley on a summer day? the smog just rolls up from vancouver till the sky looks like LA. add that to the predominate smell of cow, and you get the picture. the other greatest thing to tell a canadien is that california has taller trees, and bigger mountians. (obviously canada has beautiful clean places, but where its inhabited by humans, in my experience, its no better than the states...) you never see cars vomiting the kind of emissions that you see in canada here in california. the alleged 'clenliness' has nothing to do with the fact that its north of the 49th, but everything to do with the population disparity.

that was just in response to the guy up a few posts who was reveling in the clenliness of canada... and van is a nice city... because any airflow off the ocean pushes any pollution up to abbotsford. same reason that fairfield and hurcules suffer from dirty air more than san francisco or oakland do. personally i love b.c. i could easily live in vic. i love that city. and van is okay... at least untill you get over towards burnaby...

One of my friends showed me an academic standards survey they did a year ago that put UBC not too far behind yale (30th in the world), I forget where Yale was, somewhere in the teens. But since I plan on going to Oxford for law school and graduating from that, I'll let you know when I'm done :)

By the way, I realize UBC being 30th in the world and 2nd in Canada is patently absurd. They apparently think that by making the work harder and the grades lower they'll be recognized as an ivy league school or something. Realistically, it's just a good U, not on par with the others surrounding it... I mean for Chrissakes, it placed higher than Stanford. What's that about?

hey im deffinatley going to a good university weather its on a scolarship or just on my own pay, just cuz we smoke in BC and dont have a problem with other people doing it doesnt mean that no one goes to university or that people arent very smart

If you live in BC, you need to know only 2 things. 1, where you go for undergrad doesn't matter, and 2, UBC is a high standards university if you don't mind working and still probably getting low marks.

its only true because the base levels of the canadien rockies are at close to sea level. mt whitney has a peak elevation of over 15k. i think the highest peak in canada is a 14er. but the base of whitney is probably at like 6 or 7 thousand to begin with. thats how it works out.

I work as a labourer and it sucks, there is no serurity of benifits. the point of my story, even though it doens't sound liek it, is that the US is still way more screwed up.
