America devaluating a good math and science education

Welcome to the Public School system. These discussions have been going on for a long ass time now. It's nothing new that we haven't known about. Kids these days are fucking retarded. And I'm starting to think that it's not our fault anymore. I'm beginning to think they're just plain retarded.

Yup. I definitely deserved to be Karma'd down for that statement. I am an abomination of God and how could I EVER disrespect our children like this oh lawd I'll never sin again thanks to NS karma. fucking idiots

My school district is cutting a bunch of teachers. It is asinine to cut teachers jobs, but keep funding a bunch of shitty sports, especially middle school sports. I think all sports that don't break even in ticket sales should become club sports until the school systems can allot money for them without laying off good teachers. Lets be honest a good teacher is way more important than making sure we have a girls basketball team. There are budget shortfalls all over and schools need to be pragmatic. I think switching to a 4 day week would be good as well. They could save money on fuel and busdrivers. The teachers are the last people who should be getting fucked on this because they are the ones doing the brunt of the work.

I agree with this.. when I was in HS (graduated 2008 so it wasn't that long ago) there were plenty of advanced math and science classes, I was in them, and they definitely offered some good shit. There were also all the kids who didn't give a fuck and took classes at the lowest level they could.

the public school system has always been in dire need of reform. Too bad the voucher system in DC is now dead. that was a great idea. And they are segregated by income everywhere.

Exactly. I totally agree with that statement. Only problem is my school district HAS to be the best in the state and nationally ranked every year, so sports are a huge thing. 4 day week would be great. I think students would like it more and the district could save so much money. I really hope my school district goes to a four day week.

I think a huge problem is that teachers have no reason to do a good job. They're unionized like crazy so it's nearly impossible to fire them unless they rape or hit a kid. And there's no incentives for really good teachers, they work for the government and all get paid the same. When there's a budget cut nobody would care if the crazy ass, incompetent art teacher gets laid off but it's equally likely that the amazing young math teacher gets the cut. Maybe it's even more likely because math isn't mandatory past grade 10 in a lot of provinces/states.

+k

This makes me want to try harder than ever next year in college. I'm going for engineering, and I know a bunch of other kids from my school are as well, but science and math were definitely never as emphasized as English or the Arts. For most kids, math is taken to get the credits and be done with it.

I would say the problem is broader than just math and science. liberal arts programs are declining as well. our whole educational system blows

I agree 100% with this. There should be some sort of incentive program for this. I'm tired over all the super old teachers who are horrible but are still around because they've been there since the dawn of time.

"no child left behind" is code for "make sure to brainwash and dumb them ALL down."
fuck the US public education system.

I agree 100%. The purpose of education should be to educate. Not to give every single useless kid a piece of paper.
