Am I too old to start playing hockey?

I used to play hockey when I was like 7 but I kind of want to get back into it but I'm 20. I'm thinking maybe 2-3 times a week would be good. I can still skate pretty good and I'm not too worried about equipment (I did some research and I'll need about 1500 for a basic setup, of course I'm going to try and get shit for dirt cheap though)

So my question is what would I need to do? Are there adult programs or something? Thanks

i'm sure there are adult leagues in your area, search around for one and just play some pickup games!

hockey is one of those sports where you can play yourr whole life. you just gotta go find a beer league or somthing that fits your skill level. i think you could get all your gear for less than a grand if you find some deals

you can definitely still start playing, just go to your local rink's drop in times, no one will say anything about your skill level. Shop at 2nd hand consignment stores, like play-it-again sports, to get all your stuff.

definitely not. I never picked up a stick until I was 22. Now I play once a week and its probably my favorite sport to play.

Thats exactly what i want to be doing. did you do pretty mcuh what was said in this thread? what were steps you took and also did you start with friends. because i dont really have any friends who want to start playing hockey with me and it would probably be super awkward if i just showed up and everybody knew each other

join a beer league, even if your teammates know each-other it wont be awkward, they're just there to have a good time and you'll probably make some new friends pretty quick

Depends on if you still skate. I used to play back in the day. HAven't ice skated in like 8 years+. Hockey is dunzo for me.

Doubt i couldn't even make it from one side of the rink to the other.

Yeah one of my friends already played with a group so I just tagged along with him. I just have the essentials: skates, stick, gloves, helmet. I would go to a rink and ask if there are any groups that rent out the ice for pickup games and try to see if you can get in on one, They can usually always use more people.

I played hockey from the ages of about 8 to 12. I played again one winter a few years back. I was 21 when I started playing again. I played on a mens league. I wasn't the worst player out there but certainly not the best. As far as being in shape I could have skated circles around most of the guys there.

im going to be 19 this winter and playing for the first time in a few years in a mens league. Im playing with a friend who has never played hockey before. Should be fun.

1500 basic setup.... haha try 200 if you know how to use the internet go to play it again sports idk if there are any where you live but they have the best second hand sports gear

Def not 200 unless your buying the shittiest shit. I would definitley spend a little more on your skates, helmet, stick and maybe even gloves. The rest of the gear doesn't really matter cause you really don't need the shoulder pads they make these days and pants are pants. Canadian tire shinpads got me through all the time i played AAA and elbow pads are all the same. Skates are definitely the most important because improper fitting and uncomfortable skates can make your time on the ice hell. Many people say stick doesnt matter, but imo i can't play with a stick i don't like. So spend some time and pick up one that feels good to you. Helmet is obvious because you will take some falls and I prefer to have a nice pair of gloves on my hand because the cheap ones tend to be rock hard and have no movement.
Living in montreal you should be near a pro hockey life so just swing by one of those and the staff there are EXCELLENT and will be sure to help you out.
Have fun on the ice!
