Am I a Gaper?

So i stumbled on this website about a week ago and was horrified by the prejudice against Gapers, but more than that....worried by the fact that my ski gear may infact class me as one.
Please judge me.

Haha, 'horrified by the prejudice against gapers' love it!!

Just tight outerwear doesn't in itself make you a gaper, it's more of a state of mind than a clear cut fashion line. That said, most British people who ski are massive gapers, even the seasonaires, so yeah, you're probably a gaper ;)

rest assured dude, the only people who actually hate on "gapers" are little kids who suck or need some way to feel like they fit in. dont worry one bit about this shit

oh and you look like you dress like you should while skiing.. id go a bit baggier personally but you look way more normal than most of the kids on here..

haha thanks for the responses. I'm doing a season this year in the Three Valleys and need to stock up on some skiing kit. I have my eyes set on some sweet stuff but the conversion from USD to GBP is more often just changing the sign - it costs WAY too much. Never the less, i have some I/OS's on the way, going to purchase a Smith Maze helmet and want to buy one of the Armada Lorenzo technical fleeces.
I will be g, just wait a few months.

Haha, good effort bro, have an awesome season and really don't stress the 'looking g' part, as many people have said in the other thread, being a gaper rules.

Do you have a gap between your goggles and your hat/helmet? If no then by true definition you are not.

But if you have to ask.........

I deliberately dont because it gets my head cold. Overlapping goggles on beanie, yo.
I dont care that much, but if i have to get new kit it might as well look good :)

Good state of mind. It really doesnt matter at all, and a lot of people try to0 hard. That being said, if you like the way you look, you will feel good, and i find it leads to better skiing personally. So wear what you feel good in.

id say it depends more on how you ski....if people have the new gear and suck at skiing its worse than someone who sucks and looks dumb.

No. Your behavior and the way you interact with other skiers will define you as a gaper not as much your clothes. Im not gonna say clothing cant define you as a gaper but generally not.

chill dude, let your skiing talk, not your clothing
in 2007 i went freeriding with an austrian guide riding on 70mm and 210cm planks, wearing a k-way jacket and a homemade wool knit cap, the dude shredded harder then anyone i ever seen (except of the trickery, but he had massive style and was so self-assured on the mountain, his skiing almost gave me a broner...)

I love how everyone comes on here and acts like they wouldn't hate on him if they saw him riding... fucking hypocrites

Fuck off...I doubt very many people would actually "hate" on anybody just because of the way they're dressed...It's how they act..

My dad learned to ski getting pulled up a hill in the Lake District by a tractor though. Thats pretty core, east coast kids complaining about their conditions lol.

I mean if i randomly saw you, yes i would think so. BUt it more depends on ability and knowledge rather than what you dress like.. If i were you i would get a helmet, get some new goggles (smith, oakley, poc) and get some more colorful ski gear.

This thread wasnt meant to be a troll, i was asking for genuine questions.

I think personally the all black look is pretty cool, but i agree i need some new pants - i think ive grown out of the ones pictured anyway.

Some Smith I/OS are on their way to me right now courtesy of a forum member here, and i will be buying a white smith maze helmet in the near future. If anyone has some cool stickers (NS/Red Bull/Ski Brands) that they dont mind sending me i would be very grateful.

I dont go in the park much/at all since ive always been on family holidays skiing and parents didnt want to spend a day there. With my season i hope that can change - ill look even more stupid, as someone said, if i have the kit but not the skills.

British people are normally the gapers because we dont have our own mountains, and that makes people retarded in the mountains. Freeskiing hasnt hit mainstream yet so maybe thats why they always hang around under jumps.

Anyway thanks for participating in this legit thread, ill make a new one when i have the new stuff.

And this.

Gaper is just a mindset. If you don't feel and act like a 'gaper', you're not one. The only thing that defines a gaper for me is if you're an asshole on the slopes and you sir, are apparently not one. Just have fun, don't give a shit about what other people think about you as long as you act normal and try as hard as you can.

What rock have you been under? There is a pretty big scene starting to develop all over scotland and england. Go and check out any dry or indoor slopes, and you will see for your self.

if ur not wearing oakley crowbars, xl saga, and full tilts then u r in fact a gaper
jokes... i wouldnt worry about it who really cares what other people are wearing

Honestly I don't care how other people ski as long as their not retards and having a tea party in the landing of jumps, snowplowing at 2mph in inrun to a jump, or going off the side of rail lips as if their jumps. As long as you don't do any of those things who cares?

Just don't worry about what other people think. And yeah, like that guy said if someones making fun of another person, its usually because they're insecure...
