I'm planning a trip to go skiing at Atla, and I need to pick a date... The best date for me would be the first week of april, so my question is how are the snow conditions in early april usually ? I'm going to ski powder,, and I hear it's constantly dumping at Alta, but what about in april ?

YES!

my birthday is april 4. last season the week of my birthday alta/bird received something like 12 feet, it dropped between 1 and 4 feet every day for a week, culminating with a chest high powder day on my birthday. it was my best ski week of the year.

if its not dumping consistently in april, there is usually firm conditions if its not sunny because by that point in the year the sun is really strong heats up the snow and freezes until the sun hits it again.

its a crap shoot.(really anything is that far out) but be assured there will be snow. i was there first weekend in april last year and we had GREAT snow conditions. not feet of pow, but the snow was good. then again mid april for a pow day.. so its a very real possibility that you could get pounded while out there.

By April 1, Alta will already have 600+ inches of snow. (anti-jinx). If your only a little lucky, you'll get pounded with a couple feet of fluffy goodness. Alta closes early (mid April). Highboy on closing day is a fucking zoo. The snow can be firm, but your just about sure to see titties. Book the trip, it won't disappoint.

in april it's hit or miss. higher elevation is generally pretty nice. on most of the mountain the sun really softens everything up and it gets heavy in the afternoon and hard in the morning after it freezes at night. You kind of have to run from the sunlight to get the good snow. Some years it dumps, some years it's like skiing in june
