today at the hill, me and some friends got in a huge arguement with some old guys and some people who ran the hill, because some youngers kids like 16 years old were building a jump, it was in a perfect spot with a perfect down sloped landing but accoring to the old guys, it was unsafe so the fuckers ripped it apart, and a little bit over some little shits like 10 years had built a kicker landing on flats in a big hole and that was safe enough, and just as they said that it was safer some little kid goes and launches off it and get terribly injured and they say nothing about it, and last weekend some kid tried to do his first backflip on our biggest table, he had never attempted an invert before and had no idea what he was doing so he bombs straight down towards the table and goes to rotate his flip on the transition so his head smacks the lip and gets knocked out cold and ends up overshooting the landing by about 30 feet and was just lying there lifeless, well the old fuckers today were trying to tell us it wasnt his fault he got hurt, it was the jumps fault, now this makes no sense at all, if someone chooses to do something then its their choice, its as simple as that, so now were not allowed to build any more shit cuz of what one idiot tried to do, the committee is all about safety but when it comes to park, they do the exact opposite like make rails with 2 flat bars spaced about 10inches apart, its a deadly rail and doesnt even slide, theyre expecting us to go there and have fun but we cant have fun when all we got is a fucken 15 foot table, a 5 foot table, all our rails are ride ons for safety reasons, its fucken gay, i cant take it anymore, the fuckers are so god damn stupid and theyre ruining the hill, we used to have 12 foot high booters made with hay bails but were not allowed anymore cuz they dont want to go get sued, we were trying to tell them that they wont get sued, its fucken stupid if they do if the kid made his choice by himself, they dont understand at all, anyways whatever

this happenes to alot of places, the local hills around me won't let ppl build like foot high jumps on the sides of runs cause its considered a hazardous environment for ppl who won't be able to see them even though they r in clear site. its gay yes, is there anything we can really do about it? more or less the ppl running the resort will not listen to teens about how to keep the hill 'safe and fun'

dude, the patrollers in Vail are so cool about that sort of stuff, as long as your don't build the jump in the middle of a crowded run, or onto a pile of rocks or something, it's fine. My friend and I built a catwalk gap in one of the bowls, and while we were sessioning it this patroller comes up and says, 'Do you guys know what you're doing?' we reply, 'Yeah, just building a little booter.' then he says, 'Well, don't let anyone else hit it, and be sure to take it down when you leave. Have fun.(as he skis off)' Man, back here in the real world (the Ice Coast), you'd have your balls cut off for doing something like that.

but you can't blam them, they are trying to turn a profit just like anyone else. since 9/11 insurance compainies have been suffering bad and droping markets like crazy. (expecialy high risk ones like rafting and ski hills) the insurance companies sell you insurance at a LOSS and make up this loss in the stock market, with the stock market doing shity you have to look at your product and get rid of high loss markets Orrrr make them do a shit load of risk managment. shit there were a few big name resorts who almost didn't get a park this last year because of insurance reasons.

but i'm not ripping on insurance companies hell they are the ones who pay my college and they gave me my skis

yeah stef, we have the same problem up at my hill. only with booters though. we have tons of rails, but not one single kicker. if we want a jump we have to build it small, off the beaten path, and where most people cant see it.

Smaller mountains do this a lot, as does mine. They build a bunch of un-safe hits, with the physics all wrong, people get hurt, then they come back and say 'See what happens when we build jumps, people get hurt.' I had a 20 min. rant with Mike Nick about this a couple weeks ago.

yeah small mountains do that. We had a big air comp a few weeks ago and the jump was one of the worst jumps ever. It started out as just like a wedge to a flat sheet of ice landing. We eventually got a snowcat out to push the landing so it was at least soft but still flat as hell. I think maybe 2 people didnt fall on their tricks.

i know what your saying man. this is a bit off topic, but its similar. were i teach, they have a 'terrain garden' were only snowboarders are allowed. its pisses me right off how they let snowboarders with no helmets hit their rails. Then skiers and ski instructors with helmets are not allowed into that park for 'safety reasons'. thats pure bullshit most of the twin tip skiers are more capable of safely hitting jumps.

What is your local hill? In Devils elbow where I used to ski they had the worst jumps and rails but they wouldnt let anyone even build a lump on a trail that no one skis down...
