Oh my god if you made a burly ultra-trekker that didn't explode I would literally be your first customer. I saw marshall olson on TGR talking about making some sort of custom reinforced super trekker a couple years back involving welding tools and sawing off the soles of old racing boots and other good stuff. I really want to make a pair myself but I haven't really gotten around to experimenting yet
I am working on something that is much much better than the trekker, but caters to the same market. Easy uphill, bomber downhill in an alpine binding. Also much lighter than touring in a trekker/alpine binding combo. Check on TGR toward the end of the season and you will find it.
The trekker is a great idea for obvious reasons (casual sidecountry/weekend warrior who doesn't want to drop lots of coin on a new setup), but its downfalls have been well documented, and I will not list them yet again.
A bomber trekker-like thing would be MUCH welcomed in my opinion.
