Alpine trail from timberline

Anyone done this? I think its a bit of a fucked idea but my friend wants to take the mt hood expless up at like 9:45pm and then take the alpine trail to govy before our school chaperone checks on us at 11 PM.

It's best to do that

A) if you're fully comfortable with where exactly the pine is, how to get down it, and you've done it several times before during the day

B) you have quality head lamps you can rely on

C) it's a full moon with no weather possibility

You'll probably be dodging snow cats, too.

I had some friends get lost who have done it a thousand times the other night and luckily ended up on the glade and found their way home but this doesn't sound like the greatest option for you two, especially since it sounds like you're young and you've got a chaperone who would end up being responsible for you if something happens.

People have done simpler things on this mountain and never made it back.

If you decide to do this, just be careful.

Have you done it at night? We have good lights and spent a lot of time on glade in the summer, not a whole lot of experience other then that though.
 
Last season a few friends tried to get from the top of mile to the top of stormin's and got lost. It was a total whiteout, you couldn't tell the horizon from the snow and there was maybe 10 ft of visibility. They cut way too far over and luckily intersected with it and realized they were way too low too cut over and kept going down (with some hiking involved) they ended up in govy and we picked them up. Weather can change really quickly up there and you don't want to end up lost out there, it'd really suck to be stuck out there overnight in howling wind with a icy mix sandblasting your face.

I fully back everything Emily said there, I have gone down with my phone dying on a non moonlight night flashlight went out about quarter mile from the summit hill shit was not fun to do couldn't see its bumpy you'll probably fall and who knows if you get hurt or not.

I personally have been on palmer mid summer working the tows and been hit with a random freak storm on session setup day where it folded fences over with inches of ice. 40mph gusts ice blowing sideways vis was like he said above. We had to hunker down and wait until we could see where we were and how to get back to the lift with ice building up on our backs. About 30-40 minutes the visibility opened up and I kid you not we were probably 150yards uphill from the silcox hut. Keep in mind this was late July or so. The mtn is no joke things can go wrong and quickly.
