Alpha 1 or Filthy Rich

I'm considering these two skis for next year.I'm 5'7, 140lbs and live in Ontario.

I ski about 95% park, but when I go on ski trips every year, its more 75% park and 25% groomers/trees.

50/50 on jumps/rails, would be hitting 35-40ft on a daily basis, but up to 60ft (Tremblant)

I would be getting the skis in 176

A couple of questions, which is lighter/lower swing weight?

Which is more durable? (I kill skis)

Which is more playful and fun to ride?

And which is faster?

Thanks and +K for helpful answers

Lighter- Alpha 1

Swing Weight - both are pretty equal, FRs might take the edge cause of the symmetry

More durable - no question, FRs, mine are pretty much mint after 70+ days of rails

More playful/fun - more of a preference question, but I really enjoyed my FRs all over the hill, they butter like a champ, but are still really stable. Alphas are fun too, but I just feel like they lacked the same energy the FRs have.

Faster - FRs, sintered base, you keep em waxed (I usually waxed once a week, sometimes twice, but I ski 6-7 days a week) and they'll go as fast you want. Alphas also have a sintered base, so they're no slouch either, but I felt like I could get going better on the FRs.

Overall, I think the FRs take an edge over the Alphas, the durability alone is enough for me.

haha i am at the same point right now, i have alpha 1s right now

Alpha 1

- durablitly is good, but after this season so far i have a bunch of edge cracks and lots of chipping and a little delam near the tip

- i love them on jumps, i can take them deep and not wash out

-rails there pretty fun, seem to be fine to me

- buttering is pretty non existant for me, i mean i can but its alot of work to butter them, there pretty stiff

- overall i agree with flashstick, there just not lively, mine feel pretty heavy at times but just dont have anything to special to them

- overall i have really liked them dont get me wrong, they have treated me well and have been a fun ski for this season

but

my friend just got the FR, im getting them next season haha, there soo amazing

Wouldn't alpha one being the lighter ski have the lower swing weight? I'm skinny and I'm wondering if I will have troubles getting them around with filthy riches coming from after bangs thanks

Swing Weight and actual Weight are two very different things.

Actual Weight is just that, how much the ski actually weighs.

While swing weight is how fast/easily the ski rotates or spins. This deals more with shape and construction. Symmetrical skis inherently have a lower swing weight because when mounted true center there is equal weight in both the tip and tail. Think of it like a propeller, it spins really fast and balanced because it's symmetrical, but if you cut some material off the edges of one side (not the ends) it wouldn't work the same. Actual weight does play a role, but I've been on some heavy skis that can still spin really fast. Thinness in the tip and tail also play a role, because this helps it cut through the air faster. But the biggest thing that keeps swing weight down is symmetry.

It's a shame you can only go to 10/10... How would you compare Afterbang swing weight to the Filthy Rich swing weight? Sorry it's just i'm really skinny and stuff so I find it hard to get spins around, so I'm looking for a ski with good swing weight. I'm currently on Afterbangs if you care. I'm not really experienced with other skis since I just got into freeskiing.

The afterbang is not as far off from the FR as one would think. However, the FR does have a lower swing weight because there is less material in the tip and tail, plus, I feel like rocker helps lower swing weight, but I haven't really confirmed this. But, it's much easier to spin my FR than it was for me to spin my Afterbangs when I had them a while ago.

alpha 1's are hands down one of the best park ski's i've ever ridden. amazingly stable on jumps, lots of sidecut makes them extremely agile and can turn on a dime. probly not the lightest ski on the world but with the half and half sidewall construction it makes them have a really nice swingweight, they feel very free to spin around. rocker/camber combo makes it really nice for popping and buttering too. The camber stiffness holds the ski together on jumps, but when you wanna butter you can throw your weight to the tips and the rocker gives out to make a smooth flexing butter ski.

race base doesnt fuck around either, had no edge cracks or edge problems, but a tail delamed after 80 days of hard park riding. got warrantied and im on a new pair this year.

i know nothing about the filthy rich, but the alpha 1 is a beautiful piece of ski technology
