All time best genre of music is...

It is without a doubt classic rock. (60's-80's)

There is no way tracks from Kanye West, or even sick underground artist will have the longevity that bands like The Rolling stones, Boston, Led Zep (specifically stairway to heaven) have had and still continue to have.

Just made me think because Kanye West mentioned how he was comparing his music to sick classic rock tracks and he said wanted people to listen to his music for years/decades to come. What a joke, almost all rap and rock these days has a catchy beat and no substance.

Classic rock, FTW.
 
I don't think there is a single best genre, although classic rock would definitely be toward the top. However, it is probably safe to say that any egotistical, self-righteous comment Kanye West makes is a total joke--kind of like his "music."
 
although it isn't possible to figure out the best genre, i agree that today's music will probably not last. i wonder what our kids will listen to? the mtv one hit wonders will have been long gone and they'll probably be listening to what our parents listened to. it will be interesting to see.
 
...impossible to determine and stupid to argue about. Yes, classic rock is probably the most enduring genre, and I guess if that's your only standard for greatness then it wins. The fact of the matter is, though, that everyone has their own tastes and certain types of music will always be better in certain situations for certain people. I love the Stones, Zep, and Hendrix, and they produce some of my favorite albums/songs, but I would not argue that they comprise the single "best" genre. That's just stupid.
 
The best genre of music is the genre that involves music... in other words, there really isn't one, in my opinion. Music itself is just amazing and the world wouldn't be the same without, no matter what style it is. Personally, I'm not into that much classic rock, even though I'm in a band. I also don't like Metallica and I'm in a metal band... ZOMG! With that being said though, I recognize their talent and what they have done for music, and not just Metallica but classic rock in general, because without them my band wouldn't be here.

Oh and classical is the more enduring music genre, and yes people do still listen to it and play it, my friend who is a Senior in high school plays in the Pittsburgh Symphony Youth Orchestra(PYSO). And I do listen to classical as well as Kayne West and all that stuff in between. People always make fun of rappers for being stupid, but I'd like to see any of you write something like that good... and make millions.

orchestras and stuff play that same stuff, and people love it
