All Mountain Twin Tips

I'm looking to buy an all-mountain twin tip ski that can charge and rip hard-pack but something that's still playful. Being an ex-racer I know how to carve through most conditions but I'm just getting into park (nothing extreme)... I'm 187cm and 90kg lean so I don't want something too soft but yet playful... also I'm looking for a tough, durable ski as I'll be doing a season instructing.

Basically what's better for me? Faction Candide 2.0 or J skis Allplay?

Not sure either will suit your needs best. the 2.0's are symmetrical and wont be best for carving as you would mount them center. The allplay would be better between the two but if you're used to a race ski they will be a little more playful.

I would look at the kartel 98's. They are a little stiffer than the allplays but still have rocker to be playful in the tips and tails, and they have the reputation of being one of the most durable skis on the market. Crazy karl skid one pair all season (I think I read this somewhere in the forums here, so don't ask me for a source). Hope this helps

As an ex racer myself...I can tell you one thing. Do not buy a soft "playful" twin. You will hate it. I personally have been riding Surface watchlifes, which are now the Surface park blanks and absolutely love them. Surface skis are much more stiffer than they describe. Durability has held up for me. Not to mention they are full cambered so they hold an edge very very well and are surprisingly pretty quick for their size.

I Rock the 180's. If this is a one ski quiver go with the all mountain blanks since they are 100mm in the waste....should be fine and fat enough to handle any pow. I like the 90mm....a bit quicker and carve a little nicer. I have pow skis / whole bunch of old racing skis / front side carving skis so my quiver runs deep.

Not to mention for teaching....they are quite cheap ($250) and I have found them to be very durable but I don't ski a lot of rails anymore so perhaps that is why.

Seriously man a soft ski after a career in racing is like drinking orange juice after brushing your teeth. its fucking awful you will want something beefier and stiffer fasho.

stay awayyyy from surface skis though. i don't mean to shit on your rides Krav, but surface is not the way to go. sure they are stiff as hell but the durability is terrible and the flex pattern is awful. even race skis flex consistently, surfaces do not in my experience. plus the quality of work on the ski sucks for real.

here are my recommendations

Atomic automatic 102- this ski shreds every condition with out fail. its not ideal for park as its only rockered in the front. you could do it in the park it just wouldnt be the best

Rossi slat.- this ski is pretty playful fasho but it has a long turning radius so you could theoretically still rip at high speed

ON3P - Kartel 98 best of everything ski. not stiff but not soft id recommend this to any one looking for an all mountain twin it might be a little soft tho

Volkl wall - this is definitely more of a park ski its stiff and well built and its what many of the races i know use for park. its damn narrow with no rocker so it would be good all mountain on the east coast.

Moment pb and J - this is probably the best ski for you that i can think of. its not soft its got tip and tail rocker and its 101 under foot so it will kill it in the park and be even better on all conditions and it is in a sense playful in its butteryness. not to mention its bomb proof and has just about the sickest topsheet ive ever seen this year

My current skis are 190 Armada Magic Js and I can handle them anywhere, but I'm looking for something as more of a daily driver. My side to side flexing is fine, but my front back (buttering) isn't as good?

To each their own...I have had 4 pairs of Surface skis and just bought a pair of outsiders. All of them have held up very very well over multiple seasons. I personally am a big fan of the flex patterns on them...though I will agree over time the flex has changed slightly from a lot of skiing. Also never have really seen issues in build quality either.

Perhaps you had a bad experience and teh skis you recommended are pretty badass...but Surface makes a GREAT ski at a very very attractive price if you can't afford a $800 setup.
