Alex Honnold: Worlds hardest free solo

That moment where he is standing on the tiny ledge with no hands, just beaming ear to ear is just awesome, gotta love his passion for the sport.

Not sure I agree with you. Wait, I'm actually certain I don't.

This is a sport that only those who have transcended basic humanity and entered a heightened state of being can do. It's superb.

I probably couldnt even climb a single pitch of that route on top rope, I couldnt even imagine multiple pitches of that kind of climbing no rope. Honnolds on another planet, so nuts.

Best free soloist to ever live. His headspace is stone cold, but amazingly human; his enjoyment is so obvious. I remember watching him climb that absurd arete in the Cech Republic, in the Sharp End. He was tied in but I still thought he was a nutcase for how much he was running it out sans chalk and bolts. Just a different caliber of human and climber.

That said, I hope he knows when to slow down and give up free solo ascents. No matter how careful he is with cleaning and no matter how dialed he has the route, there's going to be a day when something happens that is out of his control; free soloing at that level is just isn't sustainable.

You're right, but personally Derek Hersey was pretty amazing too, really cool outlook on life.

Being tied in wouldn't have done him much good as he was so far above his last piece he probably would have decked anyway! That climb was nutty for sure...

plus, on that route, his last "piece" was just a stopper knot. He's on a whole different level, thats for sure.

This route was probably 20-30 pitches of 5.10-5.12. Would take most "strong" climbers two days to free or aid the damn thing and he did it in three hours.

His mental and physical endurance is super human.

Haha Cedar Wright's reaction was the best, he was more nervous than Honnold. Even the gnarly Czech guys said something to the effect of, "We're trying to have fun out here, not get killed. He's fucking crazy." Such a proud, exposed line. This has me wanting to watch the Sharp End again!
