Swish. I had my hands on one of these for a couples days with a buddies. Totally innovative and intuitive. I neeeeeed need need to purchase one in the next few days. After much searching, seems like the $400 price tag is pretty much the standard going rate (which is totally reasonable for this machine). Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with one yet (doubt it), or if anyone has found one for a cheaper price.

For Ableton Live users who haven't gotten to work with one of these yet, you NEED to go to Guitar Center or somewhere and try it. So much win in this set up.

go check out a lemur or a 4d or any of the openlabs controllers if you want something to shit your pants over.

open labs are so damn expensive though. I think most of us college DJs are a little more budget minded, which is why the APC40 is good, however, i think for 400 there are better options. I'm in the same place you are, and I'm probably going to end up with a launchpad (which i currently own) and another mixer with more knobs and faders. the most recent suggestion i've received is the Evolution UC-33 which looks to be fairly solid and if you order from amazon the total for the launchpad and UC-33 (new) is around 360. 10 bucks more than the apc40 which is on amazon used for 350.

Bump, Just getting into ableton Live and am getting into DJing, I've been producing for a while, and I want either an apc40 or a launchpad.
Just curious to what NS thinks, and i thought I might as well bump an old thread instead of make a new one.

when I first got into it I really wanted an APC 40 as well. I never had the money though but still really wish I had one. I'd say go for it!

yeah, I want it mostly for the effects controls.I found one for like 210 because it was on display at the store or something. (cool story)

I have one and I gotta say it's soooo much fun. It has so much unexplored potential as well with re-assigning all the knobs, buttons, and sliders. I've been mostly producing with it lately and haven't done a whole lot of exploring the live mixing side of it.
For its price you will not regret it at all.

thanks for the input!
I figured it would be worth the extra 60 bucks to get the apc40 instead of the launchpad just for the fact that I will have knobs to assign effects and such to.
