Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR DI-II VC (Vibration Compensation) LD Aspherical (IF) Zoom Lens for Canon EOS
or
Sigma 17 - 50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM Auto Focus Wide Angle Zoom Lens for for Canon EOS

the Tamron has way better reviews and has definitely be recommended by several people on DVXusers.

and I've never heard of a sigma 17-50? did you mean the 17-70?

You should get the 17-40 then get a 50 1.8. 17 is wide enough to follow while up to 40 gives you decent zoom too. And the 17-40 is L glass meaning its gonna look real sick.

My buddy paul who uses a 7d has the 17-40 and its wide enough for follows at 17mm. Ive used a 10-20mm sigma on my 40d and even 20mm is quite wide.

I personally would get the Canon 10-22. Since the t2i has a cropped sensor you don't get the full frame on the 17-40. The 17-40 works much better for the 7D.

The 17-40 was my first walk around lens that wasn't the 18-55. I love that thing, used it so frequently when I got it. I think it would really excel on a non-crop sensor being used as a super-wide lens, but on a crop sensor it's still sweet. It doesn't have very much reach however, so watch out for that. The Canon EF-S f/2.8 17-55 IS would be a sweeet lens to have too, but it's much more expensive. And lacks the build quality of the Canon's L lenses, also sometimes they have IS motor problems. All in all I'd still say the 17-55 is your best bet if you wanna spend the money. Otherwise the 17-40 is still a great lens.
