Aggressive rollerskating

Does anyone here aggressive rollerskate? Like the shit where you fucking shred rails and shit on rollerskates. The physics seem very similar to skiing. I wanna try it out to just stay practicing in the off season. What u guys think do u think it would be beneficial?

i dont roller skate but i skateboard and scooter, and it helps a lot with balance on rails, so it might be of use to start rollerblading.

I scooter too but I have kind of stopped cause I'm so busy. I'm a street rider and I have 11 handrails under my belt including a double kink.

it’s not that similar i thought i’d progress much faster than i did this past summer on blades

go for it, its the best thing you could do besides skiing. Your landings will improve, ballance, pop and everything. Trust me, im rolleblading for 25 years.

Does doing rail tricks on skates help with rail tricks on skis?

Haven't really aggressive inlined since 2006. Tossed a pair on about 8 years ago and had some fun in the Woodward Copper halfpipe. Honestly, I think skiing helped my inline skating more back when I skated (switch ups, 270s out were easier after a season skiing rails) - but spending more time on rails on skates made me much more comfortable on bigger rails on skis.

Inline skating tricks was what inspired the Three Phils to try them in skiing. Lots of pros used to Inline 20-ish years ago.

I have actually noticed it has been gaining alot of popularity again. A ton of people inline skaters have been popping up at my skatepark and I asked one of them about it and he said "yeah a lot of older guys are getting back into it"

Rollerblading really helped me to be able to arc switch turns on skis while looking over the same shoulder the whole time. It's easy to practice on rollerblades and you get a good idea on how to balance your body.

Also, if you skate switch a lot in the summer it will keep your neck and back flexible for ski season.

Blading is the best replacement therapy for times not being able to ski. Just the right ratio of difference and similarity to skiing. Always wondered why on earth all the pros (except Dani of course & Dollo on rare occasions) go for skateboarding, not blading.

Lmfao why does this have so many downvotes when other blading threads on here get super upvoted.

anyway yeah you say roller skating, there's actually a difference between aggressive roller skating and aggressive inline.

roller skating is the one with four wheels in a square like a skateboard. You can put a grind block between the trucks and do grinds on that.

inline skating aka rollerblading is the one with four wheels in a line (hence the name inline), and some inline frames have a groove to do grinds with. You can also do grinds using the soulplates, which are the flat bottoms of the boots themselves.

A lot of people who are experienced with park skiing pick up blading really fast. Doing a basic frontside on a rail/box is gonna come really quick if you're used to doing it on skis. The one thing you have to get used to is transition/quarterpipes etc. as you have way less support underfoot compared to a ski.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this subject. I appreciate it heavily. I believe the reason it's downvoted is because it's me who posted it.

I would say blading is more difficult because skis and snow give you a much greater margin for error on tricks. If you can do tricks over a concrete fly box you will probably not be as intimidated when you go skiing on icy conditions. When it is really icy i tell myself "rollerblade tricks only tonight".

When I started blading more i did notice I changed my skiing a little bit. I started to stagger my ski stance much more because that is kind of what I do with skates.

I used to skate just as a replacement for skiing. Now I like blading so much it is really it's own activity I look forward to rather than a weak substitute for skiing.

The thing about blading that is better than skiing is the community is just so great. You put on blades and go to the park and you will be friends with every other blader there. There is no gate keeping, no one is an asshole. Ive skated with pros like Montre Livingston and they are always so down to earth. I think a skatepark is a little bit better for making connections with people than a ski hill. You sit at the top of the ramp and have a chance to talk. With skiing everyone is in their own little group so you don't make wider connections like you might at the skate park. Not saying we have a bad community, but blading is a family like nothing else I have ever known.

I need to tell Eugen to send you a pair of his new Shadows, I know it's not the same as Xsjados but hey it's good to promote

So wack how blading companies don't make any effort to market to skiers

Oh shit man, I'd be so hyped. My Xjados 2.0 are completely destroyed.

Yeah, the lack of communication and marketing towards skiers is quite retarded. Such a big market I feel like. And i would be stoked to take on this ambassador role.. Im trying to do it myself anyways haha

Eugen Enin is a monster. It's too bad that he's so good at rollerblading because if it were something else, he could be making more money. He definitely deserves it.

Dude this is crazy I was just about to make this same thread lmao. You guys are giving me the confidence to pick up a pair of blades this summer. Any recommendations for brands/models?

i grabbed a pair of roces m12s last summer for 190ish. they are a good beginner skate but if I was doing it again i think id buy a sway IV for around the same price

Classic Xsjado (USD Shadow) is coming back.

Recently listened to the "then and now" podcast by Jan Welch. He is interviewing Matthias Knoll (owner of powerslide). He said, that tue original Xsjado Latimer is coming back. Maybe an option for you...

man you guys are giving me that "new hobby" tickle. I'm constantly looking to recreate the joy of skiing in the offseason. I'm meh at skateboarding and I hate that the board is in no way attached to my person, I tried BMX but the hunched over position felt too awkward for me and its a pain to fit in a car. I've taken a liking to tricking but then I'm stuck paying to get into gym facilities as well as sometimes driving quite a ways. I've got a shitty dryslope setup but it always feels like 3x the effort of skiing park in the winter. Maybe I will give inline a try.

I fell into the new hobby tickle trap last spring and bought a pair of Razors Genesis. I haven't accomplished anything spectacular with them over the summer as I was just getting used to rollerblading again. But got to doing 180s on them.

I never could get the hang of or comfort on a skateboard. It just feels so awkward.

bro what??? ain't no way

I had some inside info on PS but I never heard anything about that

The USD Aeon 60. Light, low, and easy to manouveur. And it takes away the rabbit hole of finding frames and wheels suitable for your needs.

I've got USD Aeon60's, Aeon72's, and Roces M12's. The 72's are for pool and vert, 60's for anything else. The M12's have pretty much stayed on the garage shelf after buying Aeons the first time. Built a 5ft mini ramp on my backyard last summer to go with my practice rails :)

Different obstacles. For skiing I've got a 6m & 250mm PVC tube, for blading 2x 2.5m 65mm round metal pipe set up on a shotgun box with height above my knees with blades on. The mini ramp copings are made of the same round stuff than the shotgun box.

Did you make whole new rails for blading or use the same skiing rails?

i started at the beginning of the summer and i can tell my balance on landings/jumps will be much better because they force you to land bolts every time

I too started getting into it this summer. You learn quick there is no saving washing out. Granted I don't do to much other than some spins and hopping on ledges, but still.
