Age Claims... Must Stop

If I see an edit of a young skier and they are good I want to know how old they are. Some kids just look young so you may be watching a 16 year old or it could be a 11 year old. Obviously a 11 year old doing the same tricks with the same style as a 16 year old is much more impressive so I don't see te issue with putting the age on as it helps you asses just how good they are.

Exactly so what is the harm of putting it on in the first place. Honestly I think the people getting annoyed are the ones who are annoyed a kid is better then them. Once you get older you realise it's pointless trying to keep up with the kids any way.

Way to both comment in a way that has no relation to the topic as well as make a general assumption that at any given time E-Dollo is not at your local hill..

HEY OP Its not their fault when a video is posted of them, the poster/postie???? puts their age. get over it, stop complaining, this is a situation where they are more mature then say you OP

Way to be an idiot.

And op, why do you care? It seems like an incredibly silly thing to get upset about.

i think they can be impressive as like a 0-12 year old but any older than that really and you're starting to get into ages where it's normal to be really good at skiing. the thing is you can't say that they're going to be so good when they get older because so will everyone else. they may be good for their age group but guess what the x-games doesn't give a handicap to younger skiers. all that matters is how you stack up against the best.

depending on the tricks. if a 16 year old is throwing multiple dubs than id be fine with that. 16 is the limit for me

Last week I was skiing in the terrain park, and I crashed doing a 360. Don't know what happened cause I can't remember. 1st concussion of my life!

When the ski partol asked my age, I couldn't remember how old I was. I said "it doesn't matter. I don't act my age anyway"

But seriously age claims are significant to me. It obviously carries a lot more weight if a young kid is throwing amazing tricks as apposed to an older teen or young adult. I may not watch an edit, but if there is an age claim, it sparks my curiousily and I watch it.

The age of a skier doesn't matter, it's the tricks that do. Let the skiing do the talking instead of age claiming. When the kid gets older, if he/she is really that good then people will notice. How the hell does age make tricks "carry more weight"?

I think people just don't like it because sometimes it seems a little cocky. Its kind of like saying: Hey NS I'm a twelve year old, I'm dope AF, watch my edit and go suck a fat cock. Atleast thats how I perceive it.

But then again would anyone be hating on an edit if it was an elderly age claim?

age claim is stupid.

if you're good enough and you look young people will ask how old you are , don't put it in the first place to make your video more impressive , let the skiing speak for itself,

my opinion though.

also unrelated but that kid phil langevin is the kid that claims the most I've ever met

You are obviously idiot... btw I'm the one in the video with the red hoodie and I'm the one who uploaded the video. I'm the one who wrote his age and I'm still fucking impressed by his skills. I'm 23 years old and I've been competing since I'm 12 in the Quebec area, I know the comp scene and everyone around it and it's the first time since B Mile, Godbout and Casabon that we have a 12 years old that good (doubles, sw 10s and his rail game is so impressive).

I don't really see the point of your thread because watching this edit I would like to know how old is he.You just look jealous or something...

Because its much more significant for, let's say an 11 yr old, doing a cork 9 than if a 19 yr old does it for example. The potential for a youngster possessing such talent to progress is huge. Its a no brainer. We have a kid who's 11 at our hill throwing tricks kids twice his age can't do. I can't wait yo see him 5 yrs from now.

The reason age claims have irked me over the years is that sports like skiing favor the young, especially as it continues to progress. Kids can shoot right up to doubles &triples when it took the early iterations of those tricks years to solidify. Nothing wrong with that, it just happens in pretty much every 'action' sport.

The big hindrance for youth, however, will always be weight. And to some extent the same can be said for style, just from lack of experience regardless of the difficulty of whatever their bag of tricks includes.

But really people gobble the age shit up. It won't go away. It is a nice idea to let the skiing speak for itself. Since that is unlikely to happen with the general populous, just do that for yourself.

yes you can't wait to see him 5 yrs from now but i can't wait to see the skiers who are already the best 5 years from now. there is no relativity in progession in freeskiing because there is no set point that you try to reach. that kid will be much better in five years but standards for a "good" freeskier will have also changed in 5 years.

Mandatory age claims on all wits from now on, no matter if your 10, 22, or 57. Age claims for all!

it's still a claim i guess, he's like saying (or inspired media) is like hey look how good i was at 15

turned 17 and just landed my first 270 out last weekend /claimbut honestly, no matter how good you are or think you are theres like a 99% chance that some kid is better than you and probably like 5 years younger..

if they didn't put the age everybody would be asking "so how old was he in this"... this argument is worth a paralympic medal

i think its more impressive when someones older and skis good. When i was 15 i had balls of steel and if i got hurt mom would make me sandwiches and shit, now at 32 i lose money at work and stay hurt for a long time

sorry maryO but there are a lot more factors at play here than just age. Age is easy to claim, but what most people forget is that these young kids who throw down are the same kids that are logging 100+ days at a mountain for one reason for another. Of course they can progress to a high level with that amount of experience. On the contrary, there might be a 17 year old who has an identical bag of tricks and only gets to the mountain 20 times a year, and has only skied 100 times in his life.

who has more potential here? there are a million things you can claim and age, to me, is one of those things thats like 'sick your parents bankroll your skiing career.'

In my mountain it's usually the little kids that seriously ball hard in the park. 20 year olds just kinda stroll through the park and do straight airs and rails. Then comes a small dildo and does a 270 on bluntslode 270 out, hit the jumps and do a 720 method. I hate it.

anyage can copycat, true freestyle comes with time and persistence.

Im older than all of you, /claim

Well, the two Japanese guys that won silver and bronze in the men's Sochi half-pipe were 15 and 18 respectively.

Except for a few outliers like Louri and Shaun, the older tended to finish further back, but I don't think the age/result correlation was that strong. Would be interesting to chart it. There was only one 15 year old (Hirano) (2nd/39) and one 17 year old (O'Connor) (15th/39.)

I think the world is moving into an opposite age-claim. But I don't think it's such a good world to be in, where the less time one has spent on the planet - the higher the expected result. It shows a perilousplanet. Then again, this is just conjecture. But someone did mention a number of months back that freeskiing is becoming more like gymnastics, and I think that's true.

I guess you make a good point. My son for example, didn't start skiing until he was 14, yet in only 2 years he qualified and did very well in Jr. Nationals. He skied on average 3 days a week during our short season, Dec-mid March. Makes me wish I started him earlier skiing, but he was a hockey player too.
