One of the coolest things I've never heard of till today.

It's a gel where the liquid component is replaced with air, making it incredibly light and strong and having some amazing thermal properties.

Just this year an aerogel made of graphene was developed, becoming the lightest known material. Almost as light as air itself.

I'm not sure where I've been this year, but I'm reading the wiki page called "2013 in science" and there have been some mind blowing achievements this year.

I'll probably end up posting a bunch of shit I find interesting in here.

here's a cool one by IBM.

In July scientists successfully planted false memories into mice.

Also the things they can do with 3D printing now is crazy. They can 3D print food in custom tastes and textures. They've figured out how to use the dusk that covers the moon to form buildings through 3D printing. They've managed to 3D print stem cells. They've 3D printed animal tissue that almost mimics human tissue. It's getting crazy.

ok this is mindblowing.

About a month ago a paper was published about scientists who have managed to create a new form of matter by causing photons to stick together into a molecular form. This is essentially what light sabres from Star Wars are.
