It always happens to me I say I'm gonna hit or try something but then when it comes time to do it I pussy out and am pissed at myself later. Any tips or suggestions?

Plan out what you want to do while you're on the lift. Set your line and tell yourself you will do it.

-I have found I'm more ballsy on the lift, and less intimidated than when I'm standing to drop. It helps to not overthink.

So when you get off the lift, just go for your line. Don't think about jack shit. Just do what you told yourself you would do. And then you really have no time to think, you just do it.

This works well when hitting a new feature and also really well when hitting bigger jumps for the first time.

Get amped dude, pump yoursef up and just send it. Drop in and keep telling yourself you got this, cause you do! Its all in your head

Dont worry OP, I had a bad mental block. I cant tell you how good it is getting over it, it just opens up a huge ass variety of stuff to do. Just make sure you know what youre doing and maybe practice on an airbag, both times Ive done new flips into airbags I stomped all the flips the next day. It feels so good and when youre going off the feature just tell yourself youre gonna do it and youre gonna land the fuck out of it. I told myself this quote a lot this past season

"If you dont do it this year youll be a year older when you do" - Warren fuckin Miller.

You got this OP just be confident, trust and know youll do it and commit.

Yeah man just tell yourself you got it! Just keep pumping yourself up until you do the trick, I find that makes it way easier. Convince yourself you can do it

Ming had some great advice. When you get to the top, don't stop, just go to where you need to and send it. A lot of times what I do is distract myself from the trick. I'll be humming to the music I'm listening or whatever and it takes focus off of what I'm doing and makes me less scared. As soon as I drop I focus on the trick and picture myself landing it and saying fuck yah. Member my Backie at Woodward? I was scared as shit but went up to the top, pictured myself doing it, distracted myself and sent it.

same thing happens to me all the time. It really helps a lot to be skiing with a big group of people to get you stoked to send it. I started shredding with a pretty large group and it has gotten me to send much more

I always think: The worst that can happen is that a die, but dying skiing is better than dying getting hit by a bus and I might get hit by a bus tomorrow so I may as well try this.

step 1: realize you're pussying out of shit\\

step2: make a thread on newschoolers

step3: read peoples responses for ways to not pussy out of shit

step4: continue to pussy out of shit

Don't even give yourself the option of pussying out. Once you drop in be committed. Act like when you drop in that's when your committed, then you have no option when you reach the feature, in your mind your already committed.

Me and my buddy were progressing at the same time, so we would do runs together trying the same tricks. at the top of the line we would come up with a punishment (slap to the face etc.), so if one of us bitched out They would have to do the punishment. worked like a charm.

That actually sounds like a sick idea.

You should also know that most of the time when people get hurt trying new things, it's because they aren't fully committed. Some examples would be going too slow, not setting a trick hard enough, or stalling mid spin/trick. So don't do that. Know that the better you throw your trick the better outcome.

This may be off topic, but I think it applies. I used to do gymnastics and learning stuff wasn't too bad because you could have a spotter to catch you/ bring you through the motions so you got a feel for the trick. For me, I was usually a pussy and relied too much on my spotters first try but then would be able to do the trick next try by myself- just because I threw harder for it and knew what to expect. In skiing, you obvious don't have a spotter so like, you really just need to throw it hard and be confident because 99% of the time you will know what to do, you just got to do it.

Last, depending on where you are progression wise, you've probably already overcame some fears. Think back to learning other tricks. You probably fell but realized it wasn't so bad and you tried again until you stomped it. Tell yourself that this is like any other trick and you might fall but it won't be that bad and then you'll stomp it soon after

FUCK I BELIEVE IN YOU OP. YOU GOT IT.

Honestly, you just need to do it. Don't even think about, just huck it, whether it is your first back flip or trying a dub, just send it son.

Just convince yourself that you have done it many times before, and this is just another walk in the park. Just tell yourself that right before you drop, and go throw the trick.

Namaste.

you must not fear. fear is the mind killer. fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. you will face your fear. you will permit it to pass over you and through you. and when it has gone past you will turn the minds eye to see its path. where the fear has gone there will be nothing. only you will remain

quit being a pussy and send it

Listen to a song that get's you pumped. Rage against the machine calm like a balm was good for me. mellow intro then it's like BOOOOOOOOOOM HIT THIS JUMP DONT BE A BITCH.

Found an mp3 player from high school 2 seasons ago. Had Eminem till I collapse on it. He's like "don't be a quitter, don't give up" and I'm like I don't wanna be a quitter, ima send that shit, and they I do it.

Just visualize it, no you can do it, jump around a little bit get stoked, crank the tunes and go for it. If you fall get up and try it again, use that adrenaline. Especially on rails. Having a hard fall at the beginning can actually be good. The fall you were terrified of happening happens and you're a little hurt but you aren't dead, and the adrenaline is pumping. You're like fuck this shit, fuck you rail, you're about to get conquered. And then you stomp that shit. Show the rail whos boss. Yell at it if you fall, punch the snow, grab your skis and run back up till you get it.

Then BOOM, you own that shit. Go get a beer.

this is going to sound really stupid, but theres an episode of traveling circus where LJ goes "ready, steady, spaghetti" before he did a trick and every time i try something new i kind of think that line and its like ok im ready and now i need to do it. its like a promise to myself.

Also i've realized id rather fall and feel a tad embarrassed (which doesn't happen when im riding with people that are just stoked that their friend is trying something new) or be sore the next day but feel good about trying something than leaving and feeling regret that i didnt try at all.

You Win

Call out your trick to a friend or something, that way you have to try it or youll look like a bitch. A while back I told my friend I was thinking of doing a misty 4 out and then he yelled out to everyone that I was going to try it. Because he told everyone they were all watching and so I had to do it. I ended up crashing pretty decently but people were hyped.

Just send it, dont think about it. If you fall the fear part is over then you just have to land it
