Advice on 2012 Rocker 2

I have the chance to buy the 2012 rocker 2's size 184 for $450 brand new. The shop has the salomon STH 16's that they would sell me for $250. I currently own and love the 2012 Sir Francis Bacons 184. I would be looking to add the Rocker 2's as my powder ski.

My Stats/Style:

I am 5'11- 180lbs and I am an aggressive skier and spend a lot of times in the trees and open bowls.. no time in park, hit a few jumps (nothing huge) and groomers only to get back to the lift.

My Questions:

1. I had my SFB's at Snowbasin a few weeks ago in chest deep blower. I had a great time and floated pretty good. I did notice that I was having a little trouble turning in the super deep... Will I notice a big difference between my SFB's and the rocker 2's in deep Pow?

2. I am considering the 184's because I spend a lot of time ripping through the trees.. but at my weight and height, do you think that I will get enough float in the deep snow? Keep in mind that I have my SFB's on days that don't have deep fresh snow.

3. I've been told that there were no changes made between the 2012 rocker 2's and this years (2013) rocker 122's. the only change was the graphic. Is this true?

4. Do you think $700 for this set up is a good deal?

Thanks for any advice.. I am headed to UT this weekend and am considering/debating if I should pull the trigger on these.

Im your exact height and weight and have that exact setup. Its a great pow ski, floats amazingly and actually still is really fun on groomers. Its pretty soft tip and tail but stiff underfoot.

Size wise, only get the 192 if you want a full on charger. If you plan on taking these in tight stuff and the trees, get the 184. The 184 is plenty stable enough. The 192 felt so big when I rode them. Id want them if I was heli skiing every year, but for normal resort riding the 184 is great.

Let me know if you have any other questions, such as mount point.

Tom.. Thanks for the advice.. Sounds like your the man to talk to.. Do you have another ski in your quiver? if so, what is it and when do you bring out the rockers? what conditions justify the switch..

I am trying to decide hoe much of a difference I will notice from my SFB's to the rockers..

thanks again

My rocker 2's are really just my Pure Pow skis. I also have Thalls and atuomatics. I pretty much keep the Rocker 2's for the deep days when I want the most float possible. But even if its just like a 10cm day Ill take them out quite often as they are just fun. I often take them in the park for a lap or 2 and they are still fun.

Good all round ski if your used to wider skis.

I personaly would do anything to get my hands on a pair of the 2012 rocker 2 but let's get back on topic here. Firts off, the rocker 2 are definatly going to hold up in DEEP pow and are meant for pillows and mainly powder. Secondly, they will no dought perform with more floatation than the SFB in deep pow with a 122 waist, so if your expecting to go into deep stuff, it's a good idea to go for the buy. And finally, $700 would be a pretty good deal beacuse the skis themselves are usally priced aroun $800 in my place so go for them! Hope this could help.

Sorry to throw a wrench in the equation.. but I can also get the Caylors (184) or the Chetlers for around $850.. I've read a few threads that exist on this debate and it seems the Caylors are going to be stiffer and the Chetlers better all around ski.. but the Rockers may be better Pow dedicated ski??

Considering I have the SFB's, which of the three would you recc? thanks

Yea? they are worth the extra $$? ... snow report in UT isnt motivating me to pull the trigger.. we'll see how this weekends storm shakes out
