i just spent like 15 minutes looking through the last post on a ski video game and all i saw was complaining, but some good ideas, i would create a full proposal for a game but we need some things if we actually want to have this taken seriously.

1. backing by ski companies such as poorboyz and msp who could send videos and magazines a ski companies to sponser it, also resorts like mammoth and whistler would be greatly influencal

2. just as the other person said a petition not only for the game company but also for companies sponsering

3. although many people hate on mosley his support would be a great help because he is one of the few pro/expro skiers who has any media coverage

if we can get these things than we may actually have a chance, start petitioning ski companies to support it and if you have connections use them, lets get a good skiing game.

 
the only way i could see giant corporations wanting to fund this game is for mogul skiing to be represented, because actual money is in that section of the industry, and the uneducated about newschool skiing may think that it will sell. i'd be willing to bet they'd never try and make an actual decent newschool skiing game though.

but hey, it never hurts to try eh...

why would mosely have to be involved, he already ruined one video game. it needs to be Pep Fujas Pro Skier and have an amped format except with pros.

 
it wouldnt be pep fujas... it would probably be skiing unleashed with tanner hall on activision O2s new format. it would be just like whatever activision does for snowboarding. but you know what it would be even MORE like? nothing, because its not going to happen.

I disagree. I just think it's going to be a matter of time for the ebarrasment of mad trix to pass, then a new skiing game will come out. It'll have to be Tanner Hall (if anyone) on the cover. he's the only other guy popular enough, plus, don't you think he deserves it?

i think tanner deserves it, because he has put in alot of effort to progress the sport, but i'm not down with his total ghetto style representing our sport. that's his style, however, and i respect that. but if he can sell a good game to a good company, then i think we should all back that idea.

Jon Olsson has a better chance, and the memory of Mad trix wont pass until there is another skiing game. It would be gay on activision, it should be like Amped or SSX. An activision style game would limit you too much. It works for skateboarding because there arent any flips really. Also, Shaun Palmer is kinda gay and doesnt really feel that tight in terms of controls. I think Im gonna prepare a proposal tonight.

I've done some consulting for EA Canada for one of their games. If you want to see a ski video game, what is important to the game company isn't who is on the cover or who is sponsoring it - that stuff comes secondary to the concept of the game. What makes the game cool? 'You can make a guy ski...' Big Deal.

What is going to make the game catchy to the millions of NON-skiers who are going to have to buy it as well to make it viable? Look at THUG - Tony's game kills it on so many levels other than being a skateboard simulator so that people other than skaters will be into it and buy it.

You want to see a Ski Video Game? Put together a good story, a good concept and go from there. Putting Tanner Hall on the cover isn't going to sell units. Then pitch it to a game studio like THQ or EA or Activision or whatever. Maybe you'll make a lot of money, but probably not.

your right we would have to appeal to the masses, but for those who said there is no chance of it happening what do you think Mike D thought when he asked a major company to make a twin tip ski because he and some friends made a home video of themselves skiing, i think we got a better chance than that, and look what came out of that... and to goodguys, i'm just saying putting mosley on it would make it more recognizable to those who don't ski, really how many people know who tanner hall and pep fujas are... this can really happen we just gotta combine all the good ideas and make a solid proposal

i think ive came up with a good kind of story line for a theoretical ski game...

what i say is that you pick a skier, and ski 1 ski season at a time, but have a bunch of ski seasons that comprise an entire career. so sort of like a career mode.

so for levels, in the first season, you start at summer camps, then do an early season rail jam. then move on to local comps, then qualifiers to try and qualify for the bigger events in the middle of the year, like x games and us open. then round the season out with trying to get an invitation to the wsi, and orage masters.

so in one season you gotta progress, try and get money and sponsors, and keep injuries to a minimum.

in the next years, you start going on photo shoots and work for film companies, while doing the big comps all over again, and trying to rep bigger companies. i dunno, its a start i guess...

^That is a step in the right direction. If any of you are really serious about doing this sort of thing, the gameing company will have their own marketing/sponsorship/naming title issues, so don't even bother trying to deal with it. Really, outside of the some thousands of us on this web community and other core skiers, no one knows who Tanner Hall is, or Pep, or MikeD. The fact is, in the big scheme of things, the entire ski and snowboard industry COMBINED is a pimple on the ass of the sporting industry. So make a good game, get a good concept and a good story.

The thing is, it is REALLY hard to be an outside person and get a company to make a new game. I have a buddy who is a game producer now, who has been writing concepts for years, and they were wicked ideas and very very detailed - professionally done - and not one of them has gone further than some executive saying 'Hmm. Cool idea. We're doing this other thing over here though...'

I say giver shit though.

lanks your idea is pretty tight, we should seriously do this, i'll start petitioning ski companies to support a game if you think it will work, i know we need a good proposal but company backing would also help... if you, ns members, think we should actually start trying to make this happen say so and i'll start petitioning companies, we'll start with smaller skier run companies like PBP, Armada and such and then move onto bigger companies with their support

Okay, first of all, dont go to Activision, they will hurt the game. EA and whoever did amped have the best framework for this kind of game. And dont call it Tanner Hall or Johnny Mosely, in fact, dont even title it. Giving them a basic concept is more than enough. Im gonna brainstorm some ideas tonight as far as controls story and extras and then email somebody to find out what we need to make a proposal.

EA and Microsoft are the ones to go to, but tell tham that if thay made it like SSX it would not go over well (cause of all the totally not possible tricks) but if it was like amped that would kill

plus they need hood cause its a big time summer mt. and they should do it like amped w/ no pro on the cover but feature like 19 or 20 of them and i bet poor boyz and msp would let them use viedo clips

the only thing i think is really cool about activision is they bring in pros when making there games so they game will be true to the sport. until someone gets some kind of petition out and harvey posts it on the main page, this will just go down as another wasted thread so lets get that petition on here

um guys, about the activision thing versus microsoft/ea, I dont think thats what we should be worrying about right now, I think we are extremely lucky if anyone takes the idea, so lets just stick with sending the prposal to any company we can, and hope that one of them will accept it. If more than one do, then we can worry about who we give it to. As well, I think we should get an insider to propose the idea and help us out with the concepts and stuff, since they know their shit.

I think it would be best to start with ways to improve Madtrix. What did that need, what was it missing? I also think that Tanner is the biggest name right now, and could bring on the money like Oakley, and Freeze or Freeskier. It would need to have the Tony Hawk Underground feel. With like a Siver Sessions twist to it, maybe online with friends, or group?. I would be up for signing to show support for a new game.

Someone who knows the kid that runs this site, ask him if he could create some sort of forum where ns members could electronically sign a letter to Activision or whoever making the suggestion of a ski video game in a polite and professional manner. Get everyone you know to sign it and see what happens....

No, the way to start is find out if anyone on this forum is friends with or if anyone on this forum knows a guy who works in the industry, and ask him what to do first, and how we could better do this, once we know what we need to do, have a plan, the rest is simple. So, does anyone know anyone?

I just emailed Harvey w/ the suggestion of creating a temporary forum for a petition.

Unfortunately, I think we're going to have to expand out horizons a bit and include big mountain skiing and possibly racing. We are definitely going to need alot more signatures than just the ns.com members. We're gonna need powder.com's, Freeskiers, Freezes, etc...

 
do people even bother to read replies before them? I mean, we are getting good sugestions but I think we need to chose a path and every post should be adding onto it, not starting a new path.

I caqn't be bothered to raed long threadslike this so i don't know if this has been said b4. It'd be pretty easy on a design level, just grab the engine from an inline skate game, shouldn't be ahrd to convert that to a ski game. It just market . are there enough of us to justify producing a game?

^ Not even close! Are you kidding? Game Studios sell in the millions of Units - there are a couple of dozen thousand of us here at best - assuming that everyone with a screen name is just one person that honestly logs in here.

As I have mentioned, I have some experience with the Game industry, and have some contacts who are very integral to the Game industry. As one or two folks have said before, as have I if memory serves - it doesn't even come close to mattering who is on the cover or in the name or if a video company is involved because the Game Studios have a tendency to want to do that sort of thing themselves.

What they ~might~ care about is content - a catchy, engageing, orgiginal concept with a high replayability factor.

hey so i got some really good ideas:

big snowball fight thing right so you can take things out.

then have like games at night in shit, like for those of you who have seen hot dog, just like broom ball and shit like they do.

and you should be able to get drunk and smoke weed at night and on the lifts and stuff

also for doing rails and shit at night you could have rad stuff like crazy kink rails, and rails that you cant hit cause they have peices of metal on them. and there could be renta cops and police that chase you and stuff.

and you should be able to have a skate board, snowskate, and gt snow racer

and also for rails and jumps you could have to ins with like cars and snowmobiles, and have backcountry shit where you choose what kind of jump to build, like there could be lists and stuff, and then design your own park and rails stuff. This could be soo cool, what you guys think
