ACL tears in the Park

Has anyone ever torn their acl jumping on a rail?

I feel like this injury was coming for a long time, just weird circumstances:

-I’m 34, been skiing park for 15 years, probably should have been sticking to the small stuff, but it sucks getting better the older you get.

-I jumped onto an urban on rail (not a large, but not a small), so the impact from the jump was significant.

-I instantly felt a “rubber band” snapping sensation in my back leg. My theory is that it was just a little bit too straight and the hyperextension caused the injury.

any thoughts? It probably didn’t help that I was trying to extend the season 6+ months in July or that I’m old and skiied 60+ days a year for almost 15 seasons.

Havent torn one on a rail but tore my left ACL putting my knee to my chin on some bumps at Big Sky(1997) and tore my right ACL jumping a side hit on Hood this last season, my right foot just tweaked to the right as I was taking off into the air, popped it like a rubber band. I think it is just my age, I am old but try and ski like I am young. My body begs to differ.lol Did you get your ACL repaired?

I blew mine catching an edge in May...34 and don't stick to the small stuff, so we've got the age in common at least.

Did you get it checked out?

It happened in July, still waiting on an mri. Insurance sucks

That's insane to have to wait that long. Did you at least get a doctor to do a ligament test? They can tell pretty well from that whether there's a full tear at least. Partial tears are harder to tell I guess. The ACL keeps the knee from moving forward, so you can tell if it feels like it has too much movement forward when they pull on it.
