ACL surgury

well i tore my acl and im going to have to get surgury sometime in the next 4 months, has anyone had the surgury? how long were u not able to walk and how long untill you were back to 100%.

I tore my ACL, but I didn't have the surgery.

I couldn't walk for 2 weeks, and it took anoother 2 weeks to be back to about 90%. That was 2 years ago, and the knee stil hurts.

I tore my acl and i could walk the next week normally then i had my surgery and it was like 2 weeks before i was off my crutches and without the big post opp brace and i wont be able to ski until christmas which is 9 months and he said i wont be 100% untill a year

Montana fucking rocks and anyone that call montanans rednecks should die

im out

love and peace

you can walk after about a week or so, you're out of crutches and your surgical brace after a month. if you do your rehab and follow what the doctor says you'll be back to 100% in 6-9 months. its not as bad as you think it will be.

I had patellar tendon graft, and could walk the day after. I was pretty amazed how little pain and swelling there was.

The doctor will have a recovery schedule for you, and will likely tell you not to walk for x amount of days (the more u walk, the more swelling u have, and the less movement u can get back). For me, they started rehab 2 days after surgery.

If you're doc. is worth anything at all, and you follow rehab., u can expect 95-100% @ 6 months.

i tore my ACL, miniscus, MCL in my right knee last year. got surgery (patellar tendon graft), and its pain-free now, i couldnt really run for a good couple of months though. now i tore my left ACL playing squash and need to get surgery on that in june.

I just tore my ACL in April '04 and had my surgery on June 4th. Its pretty painful still and I have this spot on my shin that has no feeling. My doc didnt tell me that would happen but I was looking around on the internet and supposedly sometimes the nerves get damaged around the incision and you lose feeling in part of your leg. I guess one good thing about that is no more boot Bang! Anyways I guess I have like 6 months of rehab and training ahead of me to et my knee back to 100% and I guess I have 2 more weeks of crutches untill I can walk. But I live in whistler so there's still lots of stuff I can do here in the mean time. Putting my socks on still sucks though.

I thought it was extremely painful after the surgery. The doctor never gave me a brace after surgery, and told me to use my knee as much as possible. 80% is normal after 6 months. I know that I wont be 100% at 6 months. Like everyone here has said, physical therapy is very very important. Do exactly what they say and you should be fine by next ski season.

I saw the doctor this week (im almost 4 months out of surgery) and asked him this question. He used a college football player for an example. He said that he could expect to be 70-80% by 6 months, 90-95% by one year, but it takes TWO YEARS to be 100%!

I tore mine Jan 2003, got surgery August 2003 rehabbed until Dec 31 and then skiied my heart out at Whistler the whole season (55 days along with full time school). It hurt every day after skiing until March but at that point I felt 100% and it's been less than a year now and my doc says the reconstruction was a home run....or clean stomp as far as I'm concerned. It takes a while to get the confidence back after that shit but trust me if you're determined it'll come back just set your heart on a goal and work your ass off!!!

well its been 11 days now and Im off my crutches and onto my cain. Cain's are so much sicker then the gibble sticks.

Beware the terrible ACL

i dont know how these people have been walking so soon. 'nut' said he was walking the next day (which i dont belive). my doc said 2-3 weeks, and its been 2.5 weeks since my surgery and i started walking 2 days ago...although i went straight from the crutches to no crutches.

heres how mine went. surgery, straight leg brace for 2 days. weight bearing with crutches for like 4 days. then i was on a cain. i dont remember when i stopped using the cain. i didnt wear my straight leg brace very long either. my physical therapist said that they only help your head.

had surgery 3/25/4... (patella tendon graph) on crutches for 2 weeks, like stated above, nerve damage around the graphed area (will regain fealing, just takes time) walked with straight leg brace for 8-9 weeks, thank god that's over, but i haven't worn it for two weeks now, and i have already been playin basketball, don't feel bad for yourself, just get the surgery over with, and the theropy, and kick ass this season,

I had surgery july 21 and my knee, ligament wise, is back to normal, was after about 6 months, but I can't kneel on it yet and getting hit hurts like hell, because of the chunks of bone they took out.

i had my acl done 2 days before christmas and so now that makes me about 6mnths out, i had my brace for like 6 weeks, which royally sucked, but really its a really fast recovery process, but don't push it too hard too soon, or else...da da daaa. yeah its not a big one, chill and be chill, that's a good way to go, oh and the drugs they gave me for the pain kicked ass ;)

So this one time at ski camp...
