ACL Surgery Recovery

I just had ACL surgery yesterday, fack.

From personal experience, can anyone give me a time frame for what shit will be like after a couple weeks? a month? When will I ditch the obnoxious limp? When will I be able to run again and start getting physically active again?

I know it varies from person to person and it depends on how PT goes but a basic reccovery time frame would be nice. I did searchbar and found a few threads but most of them were talking about when people would be able to ski again as opposed to just general recovery.

Not to be a dick, because I know how much it sucks to be you right now, but there are like 50 threads on this subject. Look it up.

your doctor didnt tell you? dont ask a bunch of 12 year olds over the internet.
the knee is one of the most important joints, if not the most important joint in the body. do what the doc says and wait however long it takes to heal.
i just tore my PCL and it took nearly 6 months to feel like i was okay to ski, but it is still not 100% and never will be.
healing time will be different for every individual. your best bet is to just do what the doctor says and when its time do the physical therapy exercises.

got mine done 8 days ago and all i can say is enjoy your time on NS. you will experience a lot of it.
but yeah there are a lot of threads on it

No, I repeat NO smoking for at least two weeks. Getting an infection or dry sockets is not worth it. Get some applesauce and yogurt. Ice cream is good too but Popsicles tend to need to be chewed a little more so I'd avoid them. Protein shakes instead of bars for when you work out. Stay chill. Getting mad and yelling, or yelling loudly for any reason made my sockets sore for some reason, but maybe that was just me. If they gave you pain killers, just use them for one day, two max. Flush the rest. Also, no straws. Take the lid off those soft drinks and gulp it like a man. I really small man who takes little sips to avoid all possible problems.
If you need any more help, PM me, I'm an expert on ACL recovery.

so basically you only need your crutches until it doesnt hurt to walk on it i was unaware you start being able to run in a month but you really shouldnt be haha just dont do anything stupid and what i did was i had my surgery in august of last year and did my physical therapy 5 days a week then in feburary i started skiing agian, hard. after one time of going skiing i was feeling great nothing ever bothered me really jusst take baby steps and you can go right back into it ride your bike alot also and today ive never had any problems with it just keep doing your pt i cant stress that enough

I started my physio 2 days after my surgery. Mostly just ROM stuff to start. Then some light biking. Then more biking. Then walking up stairs. Then the treadmill. And stairmill. Then running stairs and the ladder.

All I was allowed to do was PT for six months.

But you only progress as fast as you heal.

How much pre-hab did you do?

I just had mine done (patellar tendon) on wednesday. Shit sucks, my doc has me in a full extension brace until friday. All I've been doing is eating perks, surfing NS, fucking around with FCP, and watching lots of top gear. I'm stoked to get this brace off and start with some light PT, but I can already tell that being in the brace for over a week is going to cause significant muscle atrophy. The first night I had excruciating spasms in my calf and hamstring, those also really sucked.
I've been trying hard to eat very healthy and stay hydrated, and have been taking joint supplements every day since about a week prior to surgery. I injured it in early April, so I didnt get enough ROM back to do any sort of real prehab until like 2 weeks prior to surgery, but I was on the stationary bike 5-6 days a week for those 2 weeks.
Here's a PDF I found that has sort of a general timeline of what can and should be done post op:

Good luck in your recovery man. If you can, find something productive and positive to focus on while you are rehabing that will keep distracted from the fact you can't do all the sports you want to be doing. I know I am going to be building some DIY camera gear, and filming lots of skating/summer skiing with friends so I can really improve my filming/editing skills before ski season.

i feel your pain man, i got it last may. its been 1 years now and i can eazily do backflips on the ground, and wakeboard fine. I started skiing when winter came like 5 months post op, wear a brace, i usually only wear my brace for skiing and wakeboarding just incase. I got a hammy graft if u got that one to tons of work on that ur graft heals before your muscle really does. peace bro time to do a shot

I had a friend that tore his ACL skiing. He was out for 8 months after surgery i believe. All he did for that time frame was hack COD+ vibes dude
