this just is an overall terrible idea to me. NS is not a game for karma or fame, unlike many members think it is. just simply having the poster titles (n00b, no life, post whore, ath1337 etc) and your post count shown under your name is enough to get people to post whore. this is a community were supposed to have here, the forums are for discussion. yes, funny discussion and posting a lot is encouraged if they are all helpful, contributing posts, but we don't need people sitting at home thinking "how can i get my post count/karma up without other people realizing i'm whoring." or "i've got 1 more achievement than this guy and 500 more karma, i'm better at NS than him."
lately i've been helping people out in sway threads and just not posting in the thread cause i like to help fellow shredders out but i could care less about the karma or anything. i know one of you is going to take a Machiavellian approach to this post and say that i'm saying this to be on my high horse or something. but no, what i'm trying to say is people should be helping out in threads and stuff without every thread title having to have "+K for useful answers!" Has NS really gone that low? only giving useful answers for some internet points?
i might have strayed a little from the thread topic but i think i've shown why "achievements" would be a bad idea. karma has already ruined this site in some ways, the feedback section of somebodies profile is much more useful. someone could have thousands of karma from bumping contest sway or buy sell threads and be a terrible contributor, the system is flawed IMO.
i've only been here for about 2 years, and i have seen quite the decline in the quality of content. too many pictures with words on them and sarcastic comments for honest people who are actually looking for help. sure there's a time and place for all that funny stuff, but is it in every single thread where someone asks a legitimate question? fuck...This isn't hipster-broto, this is the broto that thinks this site could be sooooooo much better than it already is. What the OP describes would add to the problem.
my 2 cents.
